Intel is getting desperate

So looks like Intel graphics will have support for Ray Tracing.  My goodness you kidding me Intel can't do sH*T about nVidia and AMD.  Now the greedy mofus things they can make video cards of iGPU with RT and what not.  Very stupid IMO, stick CPU's guys.  Your input is welcome.

Even though I don't like Intel, I think it'd be good for the GPU market if they started producing GPUs. Nvidia and AMD would finally have some more competition for the first time in around 10 years.

It has nothing to do with iGPU and pretty much any GPU supports ray tracing, getting performance at is the key note.

It's just math.

People have been doing ray tracing for optic and radiation design for hundreds of years.

They're throwing around 6x the R&D budget that NVIDIA has (in a whole year) at GPUs. Yes, yes they can.

Hey dude I didn't think about how this is a good thing as prices will fall for AMD and nVidia.  I really don't think the day will come where we will see Intel graphics cards come close to nVidia or AMD.

I love how Intel got punched in the gut for not doing anything in the CPU development (aside from gluing more cores) when they have the advantage for so long. All they have done is spend money on developing stuff that came too late and stupid products. Intel Atom for smart phones, Optane which is so expensive they only dare sell consumers little 16gb and 32gb sticks (so not even good for a boot drive), Kaby Lake X, what the actual fuck does that show to how they see their customers. What I am worried that past (and now) Intel will become tomorrow AMD. Remember back when Athlon 64 x2 brought multicore processing to the masses? Because there's no Intel competition, these AMD dual cores shoot up in prices so hard they are effectively going for HEDT money, along with the rest of the AMD product stack. I dont want Intel to die, as much as it deserves a big kick in the crotch.

This is a good thing. AMD has really struggled on the GPU front while performing well on the CPU side. Since there is only one real high end maker in Nvidia, its a welcomed sight to see Intel working on changing that space and providing good competition if they can do what they claim.

intel has 5 times more funds available to blow on research and development than both nvidia and AMD combined...if intel is comited to build the most powerful discrete GPU on the face of planet earth, it'll happen.

 

Intel net income is ‎US$21.1 billion (2018). nvidia is US$3.047 billion (2017)  and AMD is a laughable US$337 million (2018)

Somehow I don't think you get what ray tracing is.

That said, Intel has been hard at work on DISCREET GPUs. That's what all the news is about. You say they won't be able to keep up with nVidia and AMD, but have you paid any attention at all to their acquisitions? They are top AMD execs lol.. so yeah... the point of your thread is way off base.

 

Calling a company stupid without understand the basic concepts of what they're doing is well... the opposite of an informed consumer.

I do see a world where intel can become a meaningful player for GPUs, but if i had to guess they are just burning cash, but they are not in as much trouble as you might think, not even close.

Stocks will jump if/when they produce and validate the money behind them compared to what is considered the best out there with Nvidia's offerings.
