Planning to play all borderlands

As the title suggests. My question here is that which all borderlands should i play and in which order to best understand the lore. I will also play any DLC that is essential to the story

The lore is pop-culture references that will not age well.

Chronologically: Borderlands 1 - Pre-Sequel - 2 - Tales from the Borderlands (Spin-off set after event of 2)

The lore is mostly there for the lols, don't worry about it.

Pretty obvious to start with the original and end with Borderlands 3.

Most of the dlc is cosmetic and really non-essential to the overall game and story, but it's pretty fun if you like the characters and gameplay. I got it all when it was on sale but haven't finished everything yet.

I've had Borderlands 2 on my wishlist for like 4 years, every time it goes on sale I almost buy it, and then don't. Next time though...
