Is everyone an amateur game streamer nowadays?

Mister Woof

Seems the trend on a lot of build help threads is "need upgrade for gaming and streaming"

Is this a good way to actually make side hustle?

Or do people just enjoy doing it?

I can't imagine the fun aspect of having people watch me play videogames.

Or maybe this is just my cloud to yell at since I'm almost 40?

This equivalent to kids sniffing cat pee though? A trend that will die out?

Near every one of my friends is now streaming be it on console or on pc. When I ask them why they do it the responses range from 'I could make it big like Ninja' to 'it's fun interacting with people as I play' and even 'I just get lonely'.

For me though, I'll probably never do it.

Ryzen 5 1600 @ 3.9 Ghz  | Gigabyte AB350M Gaming 3 |  PaliT GTX 1050Ti  |  8gb Kingston HyperX Fury @ 2933 Mhz  |  Corsair CX550m  |  1 TB WD Blue HDD

Inside some old case I found lying around.

I wonder if this will be the downfall of natural human interaction.

Japan faces similar problems with shut-ins.

I hope these people get outside sometimes, and associate with people in their local communities.

Most streamers make fuck-all doing it, because they get next to no views.

Many do it for fun. Some do it because they think they'll "make it big".

I did it for fun when I did, it was fun to interact with the one or two people in the chat. I think those builds are people who want the ability to stream but won't do it much. It's like people buying SUVs because "they can do everything"

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

imo its attention. the younger generation in general is very focused on attention. i mean facebook and social media in general are teaching kids just that. who has more followers/views/likes? people are so focused on getting everyones attention its scary. its not enough for me to just live my life and like it. no. others need to approve. the more people watch the more the streaming person feels validated in their behaviour.

It's a trend, like hip hop (little white boys pretending to be big black men), it makes little sense and they'll grow out of it when they realise it doesn't make them any more popular.

Grammar and spelling is not indicative of intelligence/knowledge.  Not having the same opinion does not always mean lack of understanding.

I doubt that it'll get to that. The problem is that we currently live in a world that is disproportionately overpopulated following the baby boom post-WW2. The economy has been in the toilet for a decade now and it's frankly a better, more cost-efficient lifestyle to sit inside and play games for entertainment.

I had a shut-in phase that lasted for years. It led me to meeting new friends in other countries and in my travels there I met and married the love of my life. In its own twisted way, spending time playing games online with others with whom I would never have interacted otherwise was the kick in the ass I needed to get back into interacting with people face to face.

I would say most people think they can make it big without actually putting any thought into how they would do that. They think the more expensive streaming set up means more views.

Ninja is not a role model to aspire to.

Most do it for fun.  I stream just for the hell of it.  Get about 10 people regularly; for me the interaction on the side while gaming is fun.  I would not want to do this as a source of income.

Making videos can be fun. Everyone wants a little ad revenue though.

Might just chalk this up to things kids do that I don't understand.

Like buying jeans with holes already in them
