Does Tech Quickie need click bait?

Does Tech Quickie really need the click bait titles and thumbnails to survive? Because it makes it harder to find certain videos IMO, or at least it will in the future.

Linus has addressed this so many times i've lost count.

 

He doesn't enjoy click baiting certain LMG productions. The youtube algorithm favors clickbait, and Linus has "so many employees" to pay.

 

Blame youtube for the birth and rise of clickbait.

If the title isn't too related to the video it may be harder to find, like searching for motherboard VRM, when the video title was "THAT THING POWERING YOUR CPU" or something.

I agree.

 

Techquickie is supposedly an informative channel, unlike LTT which nowdays is for entertainment purposes only.

 

His newest video is called 'Robots are already running your life.' Excuse me?! What is that even supposed to mean? 

 

Linus' old NCIX, Techquickie, and LTT videos were so good; LTT was my favourite YT channel at one point. But it seems as if money has blinded Linus.

I understand the need for clickbait on the main channel, but if Techquickie is supposed to be a sort of youtube wiki of PC information doesn't clickbait make it less useful and harder to search and generally defeat the purpose.

As a long time viewer whose not a kid- the clickbait has made discovering things on both TQ and LTT a complete nightmare.

Now tell me, how is someone supposed to find anything in this mess of titles? It's like Linus took everything about SEO (you know, stuff that's related and describes the content) and threw it out of the window. I understand clickbaits work well, but I'd be curious to see long-term viewership patterns for both styles of thumbnails and titles. At the risk of talking bad about the guy who quite literally got me into tech, my current education, and work- I no longer follow Linus to learn things, but to entertain myself. I honestly feel as though the channel name should update itself to reflect this- it's no longer Linus giving "Tech Tips", rather- Linus doing entertaining stuff within the medium that's not educational.

 

Yes- there's perhaps an argument to be made about recent videos like the Linus gaming guide, but those are so far and few between- and even when they are supposed to educate- they no longer really do that when they don't explain why you're doing a technical step/ what it's supposed to mean, and rather are a blind follow along kind of a thing. I like the new production value- I truly do- LTT stands out from the rest my heads and shoulders, but the channel still aligned itself with educating first, entertaining second.

I've pretty much stopped watching ltt vids unless the title is somewhat descriptive of the content with the thumbnail to match. I'm sure alot of others have done the same, it's rather saddening.

The worst offender, and totally unnaceptable IMO, was the "The only way to upgrade your macbook". It crosses the line from clickbait to blatant lie, and I still dont believe they didnt change the name. I defend their right to "clickbait" as it is good for the bottom line, but this one... Its shameful.

Nonsense. While all of LMG's channels make money, Linus has NEVER flexed the audience. Instead he spends the money on better filming equipment, it funds the purchase of tech that no other channel can get hold, it partly funds events like LTX & most importantly it provides a wage for not only Linus but the entire LMG team.

Well they've flexed on their audience plenty of times, like taking apart an expensive 8K camera and IIRC breaking it, or showing off a studio set with a Dyson vacuum ad.

It's going way too far when the clickbait is so bad you can't find a video on the techquickie channel which shouldn't have clickbait.

Or they could just make it clear, especially for Techquickie videos, where it's aimed more towards being educational rather than being entertaining.

 

Though let's not get into how some of those videos aren't entirely accurate.

 

I'm not particularly angst about the clickbait on LTT and others like Channel Superfun. When it starts getting into educational videos is where I start to see issues, especially when it starts to affect the core content.

Because YT algorithms are changing and he WANTS money. Simple as that.

 

And to my eye, their equipment hasn't significantly (if at all) improved.
