Best used gpu.... for $70..... max.

BluJay614

Alright, I've got a friend who's come to me with this.... he's trying to build a computer, (r3 1200) and is just wanting to get into gaming. He's bought everything..... but the graphics card and some extra case fans. He's using the Thermaltake Versa H15 (non-windowed version). What's worse, he's only got $70 left in the budget. There's no way we're picking up anything decent new, and the fan that's included looks like it belongs in the garbage disposal(plus it wouldn't be good to get a case that looks to be well ventilated, only not to use it). Any ideas or suggestions? Fyi, most of it was bought used, so returning things may be out of the question. He's also in a really rural area, and the nearest "city" is 4-5 hours from where they live.

Go on eBay and hunt for used 7950/7970/280/280x's. They generally seem to bottom out around there.

I'm just gonna list some options, in no particular order, because what you will get is kind of dictated by the market..

AMD: R9 270X, 280(X), HD 7950, 380.. That would be about the best options. I don't think you could get R9 290(x) cards for that price, unless you got extremely lucky.

Nvidia: GTX 760 cards are sometimes pretty decently priced, GTX 960 maybe?

You're probably best off just checking what you can get second hand for those prices and seeing what performs best.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

For $70 you could probably get a GTX 960 or 970.

I managed to find a 970 for exactly $70 a little while ago, the card runs fine (it was owned by a smoker at some point, so I did have to deep clean the shroud and heatsink, but its fine now).
