shit storm of frame drops and freezing

got a new monitor and the game keeps freezing every 30 seconds or so 2560x1440 144Hz Gsync, 2070, Ryzen 5 1600 3.8GHz, 4x4GB 2400

i assume its the CPU but i dont want to spend $400 when ryzen 3 is around the corner

so far bo3, farcry new dawn, i havent tested anymore games yet ram is at 50% usage and cpu is at 30-80% in-game

I'd blame memory, Ryzen basically requires 2666mhz or higher, preferably 3000mhz.

slow ram shouldnt cause freeze, try use 2 stick  for testing

Other than that, I might go for hard drive maybe, depending how fast it is. Sometimes transfer speeds can't keep up with the games

I meant memory as speed not capacity, it might be too slow, Ryzens get bitchy about RAM speed like a blonde on a starbucks cafe when the cashier misspells her name

When playing next just keep an eye on cpu/gpu usage and their temperatures

its worse with gsync off, havent tried lowering the refresh rate yet

Maybe like others have said, try different storage media.

 

I've had similar issues with loading on bad drives.

Mechanical Drive trying to drum up 2k textures?  Sounds like the issue.

 

If you are running at ultra settings, and turn around...and get lag...its because these new sprites introduced aren't loaded up on the GPU (just giving an example very basically) so the HDD has to find the file, and load it to the VRAM which in turn is our waiting period.

 

Turn down your graphics, see if that fixes the problem.  If it does, I bet its a storage issue.

 

Its NOT a RAM issue with Ryzen lol.  Unless its a RAM issue, and nothing to do with Ryzen.
