Anybody completely removed themselves from playing games online?

BetterThanLife

For me, my reasoning came from what is the point if all i do is get stressed from other people?

My go to was CS and other shooters like Battlefield.

Cheating is an epidemic, too many people lack morals and want to ruin it for others.  This is not just on PC though, i played Tekken Tag Tournament 2 on PS3, i would get players who crouch blocked the entire game, of course i still kicked their butts because i'm a solid player but there was nothing more infuriating than some cheap skate bringing their way up the ranks by essentially being a coward.

Moved onto Call of Duty 4, modded lobbies.

I gave in.

Much happier for it :)

Self help guide.

I just don't enjoy it that much anymore. I used to play tons of bf3 but ever since then I just play singleplayer games.

I once gave Luke and Linus pizza.

Ah, I'm not much of a gamer myself, just occasionally play RPG games from time to time, so I never got exposed to this. However, I've watched a few of my friends stream and man, the comments in the chats by other players is pretty brutal sometimes. They were playing league and if you make mistakes, expect some toxic comments your way. haha.

That being said, you can also make some great friends playing some games, there's pros and cons for sure.

Way back in the Diablo 1 days, I tried it on their battle.net service. 15 minutes online convinced me other people are jerks (and that's putting it kindly) so that was that. Single-player from then on.

NOTE: I no longer frequent this site. If you really need help, PM/DM me and my e.mail will alert me.

I've pretty much given up playing with others too and have moved onto focussing on programming or playing offline games.  I'll play online games if I'm playing it with friends but playing it alone with randoms gets infuriating very quickly.  I'll stick with a few communities on games that I play on because there are still some genuinely nice people but most of them are toxic, especially the case with Garry's Mod.  I play games to have fun, not get yelled at by some idiot going "EEEEEZZZZZZZZ!", like... do one.

Absolutely.  Though I've found doing this to be more difficult recently because of most peoples egos.

Have met plenty of good people most of them by matching up through IRC. Public queuing is completely random. Lucky for me TF2 is still quite a thing.

Sad truth, add that to anything and people are hard to take serious.

I did play World of Warcraft for a decade and had some nice time in it, but I wasn't a PvPer -- I did raids, so I wasn't subjected to *that* much excessive toxicity. I mean, yes, trade-chat is/was pretty much as awful as 4chan, but no one's forcing you to read it, so... yeah. I've grown bored with WoW, though, and these days I log into Battlefield, if I feel like getting a massive beating. I still don't participate in the in-game chat, though; it's a fricking cesspit. I don't play any other online-games, though.

That said, by far and large, I play single-player or coop-games. Coop-games, especially, can be an enormous lot of fun with the right person. Someone above mentioned friends, but, unfortunately, it's pretty difficult to find any friends when playing single-player - games!

As of late, my friends have been the (brain-dead) companions in ATOM RPG! It's too bad that they seem to die all the time....hmmm.

I wish that all the F2P devs would get smart and have segregated matchmaking tiers: paid, paid+f2p. Being able to create a new account and harass the players that paid money is stupid without money on the line. Could even have a hacker sponsored tournament every year where the payout comes in part from hackers who were willing to fork over money.

If a portion of Valve's profits come from cheaters buying games again, you could just say that the competition was funded by cheaters.

The fact that PC games don’t have rentable servers anymore like they did in the olden days means you can’t kick cheaters from your game or ban them from your game.

Yes online games have have gotten worse. But I still believe there are some that are still worth playing

last year the nightmare is my current obsession

i still play a lot of online games(mainly nba 2k mypark and CS:GO). but sometimes i need a break from the competitiveness. So i turn to single player games sometimes.
