Where can I save money on my PC build?

lil genderfloo

Hi :)

I'm about to build my very first gaming PC, since I am tired of gaming on my 2013 Macbook Air. I am looking to build a low-mid tier rig and have so far come up with the following parts:

AMD Ryzen 5 2600X

MSI X370 Gaming Pro Carbon

Corsair Vengeance DDR4 RAM 16 GB

Asus Radeon RX 580 Dual OC (8 GB)

Corsair RM650X v2

Phanteks Eclipse P300

Samsung 860 EVO 2,5" SSD (500 GB)

The problem is that since I live in Denmark, everything is taxed and is therefore very expensive; this build adds up to 1350 USD in Denmark (8900 DKK) and is therefore a bit too expensive for my budget, which is about 800 USD. Where can i save money without sacrificing too much performance?

I want to be able to play League of Legends, Battlefield 1, Call of Duty Black Ops 4 ect. in 1080p resolution. I'd also like to be able to run Battlefield 1 in high-ultra settings if possible.

Thank you very much for reading

why not strive a little longer and get the parts you want instead of sacrificing and maybe regretting it later

eBay, or otherwise used, graphics card is always the first step in saving money. Great value for the same performance.

Step down to the 2600, it can be overclocked later if you so choose, and right now it's the value king.

A 250GB SSD now and a large hard drive later does wonders for saving money.

Lower wattage power supply, like 450 watts, works well for you. Still gives you lots of room to upgrade, see my sig for a power draw point of reference. Consider a CX450M.

If it's still over budget, an RX570 isn't so bad.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

There are many places that you might be able to save some money:

  • Get a 2600 instead of a 2600x
  • Get a B450 motherboard
  • Cheaper RAM
  • Get a 550w PSU
  • Get a cheaper SSD

It's pointless to quote pricing in USD; you're not using USD, and it'll only confuse those trying to help you build plan. USD pricing is irrelevant to you.

It's better to link the store you will be buying from, or people can change PcPartPicker to your local country.

As @fasauceome suggested, look at used parts. The CPU and GPU can both be pretty safe to buy second hand.

Thank you very much - how low in terms of speed can I go when deciding which RAM I’ll purchase? I’ve heard Ryzen likes/needs fast RAM in order to perform well

There are some available , however looking at price you may well be better of looking at all types of motherboard that can accept the CPU ur after, ratehr just singling out B450.

So, so long as they all have updated bioses, u can look at B350 B450 X370 and X470. They all have wifi options available, just find the cheapest one available to you.

Again do note however that both the B350 and X370 will need an up to date Bios to accept the 2600 ryzen CPU.

Try to aim for 3000mhz or higher, with the tightest timings (lower number is better) you can find.

You should aim for 3000/3200. The price difference isn't that high.

Hi again :)

I can't seem to figure out if the MSI b450M Gaming Plus motherboard has built in WiFi? I can only seem to find information about LAN, not WLAN. Here's where I will purchase it, if it does have WiFi: https://www.happii.dk/Bundkort/MSI-B450M-GAMING-PLUS-Bundkort-AMD-B450-AMD-AM4-socket-DDR4-RAM-Micro-ATX-/2673811?utm_source=pricerunner&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=pricesite

I've decided to go for micro-ATX since it'll have to fit inside the Fractal Design Arc Mini R2

No it does not.  As far as i am aware, from looking at PCpartpicker, there are no m-atx wifi boards, only normal ATX, and m-ITX, and they tend to be expensive.

It would be cheaper buying a non wifi motherboard and buying a wifi card seperatly, they can be had very cheap.

To give u an idea, here in the UK a Wifi motherboard regardless of if its itx or atx, costs around £120.

However

A standard B450 m-atx board without wifi can be had for like £60 , and a cheap wifi card for £10.

Okay thanks! Should I just go for an inexpensive wifi card? Do they really differentiate much in quality?

Cant say i've looked into them tbh.

That said I wouldn't think there would be much difference aside from what wireless protocol it uses so a basic model from some one like TP-Link should work fine.

I have decided to go with the MSI B450m Gaming Plus motherboard, but it says on the website that it supports the following RAM speeds: 2400 MHz, 1866 MHz, 2133 MHz, 2667 MHz, 3466 MHz (O.C.)

Does this mean that going for 3000MHz is a waste of money since I won’t be overclocking?

You will be fine with 3000mhz or higher RAM.
