Mining boom was the worst thing that could have happened to AMD.

Since the change from ATI to AMD, there has been almost 2 full calendar years that you couldn't buy an AMD GPU. Though in round 2 of the Crypto Boom, it's actually hit Nvidia's profit margin badly because AMD decided to kill the lower mid-range pricing structure for the Holiday 2018 season.

In Crypto Round 2, AMD just didn't bother increasing production by much, but they allowed their channel partners to sell directly to big miners. That seems to have been a way to keep partners happy while also pocketing extra money in the process. After the boom ended, AMD just flooded that production back into the consumer channels. We know what the Zen cost structure is on GloFo 14nm, which means the RX 570/580 costs just a small amount more. By this point, those dies cost AMD all of 30USD or less, and all of the rest of the costs are already amortized.

That's why Jensen was in such a huff recently. Nvidia over-produced mid-range dies, RTX card aren't cheap to produce, and Nvidia is mostly more or less just respinning from Pascal to Turing for the mid-range. Nvidia is going to have a rough H2 2019.

Related, but the performance rumors about Navi are likely correct. The entire industry is responding like the dGPU market is going to take a large segment performance shift in 2019. The RX590's price range seems odd, until you subject to the likelihood that AMD will slot in their top Navi card right there, at about the 1070 Ti performance level.

It doesn't take much to generate bad PR with your consumers.  When I was running my own businesses the one thing colleagues kept telling me was to be careful of success,  if you get to busy and you can't manage it or the consequences of it,  it is just as likely to kill you as lack of business.
