Searching for tool that removes all but 1 duplicate files.

samcool55

So, i've been searching for this for WAAY to long now and starting to give up.

I have a bunch of music, but over the years it became a massive mess and there are duplicates everywhere.

Right now i am looking for a tool that searches through folders and subfolders for duplicates and automatically removes all duplicates.

Manually going through all of it and selecting which one can be removed or saved will take too much time, last result is that there are over 4000 duplicates so not ideal.

Tools i've tried: SearchMyFiles (doesn't have a "remove all but one" function"), dupeGuru (also no "remove all but one" feature), CCleaner (somehow gives no results? music is on an SMB share and CCleaner doesn't seem to understand that), DuplicateCleanerPro (only 100 during trial, not good enough), Auslogics Duplicate File Finder (spyware fest, just a big nope).

if you have any suggestions for other tools that can do what i want, please let me know!

I used one to remove duplicate image files once, pretty sure I still have it on my PC at home, I'll take a look tonight and see if it does sound files too.

If not, I can probably just write a script that will do it for you.

Try using the program "Search Everything".

Filter and select all but one of the files and delete

Oh that's cool. You don't have to write a script specifically for me but that would be awesome :)

Sadly that one doesn't seem to understand SMB shares so i don't think it will work.

Or i'm derping and missing something.

ITunes?

Install it once for this. Set the settings to copy file to library when adding adding songs. Point iTunes to folder(s) it will import everything without duplicate. Delete the original.

Other music players might work like vlc but Google is flooded with iTunes answers.
