Why do people need 2 ssd's?

So I've been seeing tons of 500GB SSD's for sale, but since I already have one I did not buy one. I just put my OS and some maybe 5 or so programs that I use everyday on it. The rest I put on my HDD, but my question is do people use more than one ssd on a build, and if so for what reason?

GPU - MSI 980 Ti 

Mobo - MSI Z97 Gaming 5

Memory - 32 GB DDR3

Storage - 3.4 TB

I've just kept using SSDs for game drives. My boot drive is 128GB, and houses the games i need booted fastest since it's an M.2 drive. I have 2 SATA SSDs for really large, slow loading games, and I have a mass storage hard drive for anything else.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

 

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

 

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

Raid Arrays for even faster speeds, I have a 250GB NMVE SSD as my boot drive, and a 1TB SATA SSD as my Game Drive. I'm sure there's more reasons.

Raid arrays or more storage. I have a few SSD's in my computer purely for storage. Games are getting larger, and the 250gb one my OS is installed to can no longer hold games as big as say, Battlefield 1 (over 80gb). It also depends on the program. Some access the drive more than others. (If I recall DOOM runs MUCH faster on an SSD because it's always loading from the drive).

People want faster storage than a hard drive. You may not see a point, but some people like fast loading times, and others actually need the performance an SSD offers because of their specific workflow.

There's no rule on how many ssd you may have. SSD should always be the boot driver. everything else is your preference.

But for new builders, it should be optimal to have 1 ssd and 1 hdd.
So you get the best of both system one best for speed and one for its capacity.

In my main rig I got sick of hearing the mechanical drive heads moving around, and having to wait for it to seek around during large video files... so I said screw it and replaced the 4tb mechanical HDD with a 4tb Samsung 850 EVO SATA SSD.

 

No regrets! (except the huge hit my wallet took, but that's beside the point)
