Can you touch type?

I never could learn to touch type. I even took it back in high school (I actually had talk my parents into letting me take it). I have some learning disabilities, the worst being ADHD.

 

I just use the Scriptural Method of typing (seek and ye shall find).

I can type without looking and I can do it pretty fast, but I cant do it properly like with the home keys and such. I kinda just go for it

I can. It was a required course back when I was in public school. For some reason it's not offered anymore (at least not in my daughter's school). I would think touch typing would be a more valuable skill today than it was back in the 1990's.

Although, I've greatly improved on my skill having to program shit. The faster you type the faster you get paid

Like you, it depends on the keyboard. I currently changed my keyboard switches from MX Browns to Kailh Novelias, and my keycaps from Cherry to SA. The difference in actuation force and cap height is taking a while to get used to.

Yeah that's pretty much me. Having a decent keyboard definitely helps, and IMO browns are easier to type on than blues

What is touch typing?

 

Assuming it is typing without looking, yeah I can do it, but I do look down every now and then and my hands are not in the typical positions. I find myself using only 4 fingers for this entire post, so that is what I am doing all the time, I can type pretty fast, never bothered to do an online test of speed, nor a copy test of test. Keyboard are keyboards, they are all the same, but them erginomical types are out to lunch, split boards, high and angled.

Same, if you repeat something enough it should become 2nd nature to you. I mean 99.9% of the keyboards produced today follow the Qwerty format so it's not like you have to relearn everything each time you change keyboards, some just have keys that are differently shaped like the backspace key.

i use 4 to 6 fnigers total (mostly pointer and middles on both hands depending on which one is closer to the finger and i use ring fingers and pinkies to shift and hit keys on the borders

 

so an average of 4-6 fingers and i thoe at 60-70wpm which is faster than anybody else in my class

i would say yes, but there are just some letters that i am unable to type correctly and have to look at the keyboard. everything else are just fine

I can touch type. I've learned how to do it in 5th grade. I'm usually good with any keyboard too once I figure out where F and J are.

 

I suppose the only quirks I have are I don't alternate which shift key I'm supposed to use and I often type Y with my left hand.

I can touch type QWERTY, most of qwertz and with mistakes I can touch type russian.

I can touch type but only with 3 fingers (both index and left thumb), never learned the whole "home row" thing which annoys a lot of people when they see how fast I type compared to them.

I could for a bit. QWERTY kills my hands so I decided to learn Dvorak. I could touch type at like 25wpm but then school came up and I went back to QWERTY (80-90wpm) and I just never went back

I can type without looking but have to check in to make sure I’m pressing the right keys. I wouldn’t say that I’m great at it but it is serviceable without any major mistakes.

I can touch type. And my parents said that the hours I spent in chat rooms in the late 90s was a waste of time. Anyone remember Live Universe? I spent waaaaaaaaay too much time in there. Though, I still keep in touch with two people I met online back in those days, both of them from New Zeland, and I've met up IRL with both of them.

I had typing class from 4th-6th grade. Then Minecraft taught me how to type much faster. I can just start typing without ever looking where I began or am at. Only have to look for special characters
