I've found that a lot of those sites tend to have ebay stores where they sell the same servers for a bit less.

I've got a Dell R610 myself, along with an R620, and they are both very nice :)

Ditto, Ebay. You can buy high-power barebone supermicro servers that you can populate with your own CPU/memory/HDDs. $200~300 and it comes with the chassis, motherboard, psu. Some of them can come with memory, cpu but it'll cost more.

Also look at the HP DL360 and DL380 G6 and G7 models. They have the same basic hardware and can be had for the same money if not less (depending on the country).

But yeah, probably eBay.

I haven't heard that name in a while. I've never used them so I can't give you an opinion there.

my maximum budget is $300, is it enough for vm server or vmware exsi??

We can't tell if that's enough based on your budget.

Why don't you do some searches, and pick out the top 3 best servers you could find on eBay, and post them here.

ESXi is a Hypervisor. It can run on a potato, since it by itself doesn't really do anything.

What kind of VM's do you want to run? How many? What Operating Systems? What software/tasks?

No the G6 suck, way to picky on OS choice, I own one and getting anything not on the supported list to install won't happen.

Interesting (also sorry for the late reply :P). I have a ML150 G6 and a DL380 G7 and I've been able to run anything on them from SBS2003 to WS2012 without issue. WS2016 is super picky on hardware, so that's a no go. ESXi 5.5-6.5 also work great (and even 6.7 on the G7).

If you live near a University they often sell and/or auction their used equipment. I recently saw an R530 with 32gb, 8x1TB, and a couple of 2630 v3's go for $200, among other things.
