do we still need expandable storage in phones ???

Will2326

with phone storage becoming so massive with 64gb being the new minimum and almost all phones having options for 128GB  256GB and more are people actually using expandable storage line micro sd cards  in phone, do you want it,  you use it, do you need it, how much storage out of the massive amounts in your phone are you using.

what are other peoples opinion on this matter is it necessary or a feature still being added to phones but becoming unused and forgotten about faster than the headphone jack

my phone came with 16gb

it is expandable to 64gb

in 2013 people thought 16gb was a lot for a phone

in 2018 YOU think 256gb is a lot for a phone.

My V30 has a headphone jack with an improved dac and I have a 128GB SD card installed because why TF not. This phone is smaller than the giant XL/Plus models that did away with those things. I'm not buying we don't need things more than certain companies want to condition consumers less features should still cost a premium.

That is enough. I have never used more than 10GB storage and half of it is for music

You dont have much music on it then.

For me, yes. I like being able to take my sd card out & put it in a new phone and have all my music & photos & videos on there without dicking about.

It bothers me whenever someone has the mindset of "oh this works FOR ME" not everyone is "you". Case in point, here's my current storage usage on my phone.

Indeed but there will be one point when most people won't need more. Like  we have now on desktops, for most people 1tb is enough and if they need more, then it should be handled different

I don't think usage has really changed, but file types have definitely gotten bigger. I mean..I have a 1TB SSD and that thing was in the red until I moved *2* games onto my hybrid drive.

darn....

seems like they should make phones so that some have a low amount of storage , and some can have more storage for people that need it.....

they should do that , that would be a neat thing they don't currently do

My point was, that the time people dont need more is coming, not now.

Look at how many people you would recommend a 4tb ssd for their main drive to, not many hey.

Why? People's use case might change during their usage and so they might need more storage after already having bought the phone and 64GB is the minimum for a mid range or flagship imho.

32GB is fine for budget but 16GB really needs to die.

There will always be people who say more is better and that is okay.

but even if you don't use it to expand you can also use it to transfer data from phone to laptop etc so the slot itself will be useful.

I'd be fine with 32gb of storage, since I hardly ever take pictures or videos with it/don't leave them to rot on my phone until the end time. Nor do I play mobile games.
But I know some people who hoard up everything, never deleting anything, to them, it's never enough.

Yeah they should make smaller ssd's than 4tb. I think they would be useful

I would if SSDs were cheaper. It's not a capacity issue. I would buy a 2TB SSD if it costs the same as what a 2TB HDD costs now.

The problem is adding Storage costs too much money.

And offering 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB options for high end phones does make sense.

They do.

4TB is hardly a common capacity for an SSD.  Most people probably buy SSDs in the 120GB to 512GB range

it was sarcasm , they make every phone storage option these days. anything you want you can buy. anyone can buy anything.

you see , it's funny becuase im mocking the premise of someone complaining that large storage options exist. super funny joke i know.....

Most people I know save their pictures and video on their PC/Mac after one year.

Most of the storage used on mine is pictures/video and music.

See, linus has mentioned this in a wan show, where he discussed the needs for higher and higher storage capacity's on specific devices and he used the 1tb hdd as an example

But if a 1tb was for example $100 and a 2tb $150, why would you spend the extra $50 if you know you aren't planning to use it?
