What was your first language?

Dugbuzz

Python. Now I'm mainly a Java person and occasionally I'll use C/C++ if I have to. Spent a short time using assembly.

Started with Java but soon moved to C, asm and C++. Learned JS, Python and various other languages during the following years.

C++, Python and JS are the ones that I currently use the most.

I started with good old Visual Basic watching "hacking tutorialz" (sigh). We don't talk about those dark days.

A few months later I gave up on that pain and started doing other more general stuff, including GTA San Andreas mods with CLEO and SCM Scripting (a Rockstar-made language that other modders somehow uncovered).

Later went for Java and other C-like/Java-like languages, where I ammost fluent now.

While I dabbled a little with BATCH and Lua when I was really young, I think my first language was BASH, I started learning it when I was 11, I believe, any programming prior to that was either dabbling in those two languages or doing some somewhat complex stuff in Scratch, I remember even creating a "simulated fantasy OS" in that

I currently program in primarily JS for Sphere, and C++, I'm currently hopping back and forth between to two

My procrastination is the bane of my existence.

I make games and stuff in my spare time.

In high school they taught us in this language called Turing. I don't even remember any of the syntax for it. I looked at one of my high school projects the other day and I was like, "what is this gibberish?"

The problem of looking at old code (old being 3+ months) and trying to understand it is a fun one :)

Started in HTML/JS/CSS, transitioned to Php/SQL, settled on C/C++. Started learning ASM when my OS project began. Went on to pick up Java while in college. Still learning ASM...

I personally picked up in a span of 2-3 weeks 2 language which are Basica and Quick Basic. Ended up with Quick Basic as my favorite.

Yes that was before HTML was invented.

Yes for internet i had to take the actual phone and put it on the modem so it could communicate by sound.

600 baud FTW

Visual Basic 6.0 and TI BASIC.

Had to start somewhere.

I also started with VB6, looking back it is horrible, but back then it was pure magic.

EDIT: Just read the OP, so obvious disclaimer: DON'T LEARN VB6! Start with something easy like Java, C# or Go and then try something like Scala or Rust to learn new, more advanced concepts.

Basic on my own and then both Visual Basic 3.0 and C++ in the first few years of college.  Also took a course on COBOL and Fortran.

In the work environment I started with RPG IV, C++, Classic ASP, VB.Net/C# and SQL (P/SQL and T-SQL mostly).

Since then I have probably touched a little bit of everything and still like to code but it doesn't make much as a primary profession.

Java in technicality, though I wouldn't call that experience learning it then. C would probably be more accurate.
