By themselves, they are, but when you have a whole smart home ecosystem then they can be great.

You can walk in the house and say "Hey google, play the latest video from Linus Tech Tips" and your TV will turn on and start playing it. What more could you ask for?!

As do voice assistants. The only thing I use Google now for, is to set a timer when my hands aren't clean, while cooking

it depends how lazy you are, like an Echo Plus functions as a hub and can be used to control your thermostat and lighting and even locking and unlocking your door, there is nothing these things can do that you can't already do with your phone, these just let you do it with your voice.

I mean, a normal google home could do that

Speaking of which, why can't you just attach a normal google home to a speaker system and call it a day?

Why does it say 'PC users perspective' when you use a phone and Google and Apple both don't use Windows :?

Linus apparently doesn't know the difference between a woofer and a subwoofer.

One word: Meh

HomePod sounds great for its size but it’s just so inflexible even as a speaker.

We have a sonos system at home with 4 speakers and a B&O stereo connected and you couldn't ask for more ^^

That whole assistant feature is pretty useless to me since I can have it on my phone if I ever wanted to use it.

You could do that using Chrome Cast or Chrome Cast Audio, but you can't do it with a wired solution as Home and Home Mini do not have Audio ports. Amazon Echo (+ variations) does.

Right? Even though he's done a TechQuickie video on this before.

Agreed. A smart speaker should feature everything that a traditional Bluetooth speaker has, with the smart features added. There's no reason for Apple (or any manufacturer) to choose to not include Bluetooth or a 3.5mm aux jack other than to lock one into a certain ecosystem or platform. This effectively makes the purchase of an Apple HomePod, or most Google Home or Amazon speakers without Aux-In/BT, even though we have enough iPhone's and iPad's in the house to justify it because I cannot play audio from a laptop or desktop without BT.

Technology is supposed to make our lives easier, not more difficult.

No, like he called the midrange driver a woofer, and the woofer he called a subwoofer.
