Xiaomi Mi A1

Hi, after living with an old smartphone, I thought it was time for me to upgrade. I went on the Internet and found out that Xiaomi make great phone. The Mi A1 caught my attention. Thing is, I'd like to see what you guys think about this phone. Is it a good phone or not?

Xiaomi always make pretty decent phones based on what people say. I've never owned one myself though because I'm reluctant to go without a warranty.

 

Could be worth waiting a few more months for the next gen to release though, they generally come with nice refinements and if you find you don't want it, this gen will be cheaper by then anyway.

Never had Xiaomi, but they should be great if not consider Nokia 6(2018) or Honor 7X. So yeah there is also the Redmi Note 5 once again no experience with Xiaomi some really hate their MiUI like others hate the EMUI from Huawei. But I love their free file manager app tough it works great on my phone! :3

It says that on this Mi A1 it would be on Android Stock. Seems stupid but I neved had an Android phone before, I always been on Iphone and I wanted to change since Apple makes me sick, all this trouble to do some stupid stuff on it such as adding files. (By the way stupid when it comes to computer stuff  I know what I'm talking about  )

 

This says, I'll get to learn how this phone work, hopefully it's gonna be better than what I have at the moment.

The Mi A1 is great. 

 

Xiaomi has made great hardware but their MIUI skin is a love it or hate it thing. 

 

The A1 runs stock Android and will get fast updates (well, faster than MIUI).

If you're going to pick a budget Chinese phone, make sure that it supports the bands that you need; in Canada, most of these phones won't have a full range of bands, and it could leave you without service or with greatly reduced capabilities in certain regions.

The Mi A1 is kind of the exception! The Redmi 5 Global Edition too. But you'll have to double check that info before buying.  It supports the B4 band (1700MHz~2100Mhz) which is widely used by Telus in Canada for 4G LTE. 

 

But yeah, most Chinese phones have cell frequency issues in Canada. For example, I can't get LTE on my Zuk Z2 but 4G works fine. 

 

If you don't mind spending more, definitely get the Samsung A5 (2017). You'll get a better camera, similar performance, and absolutely no worries about cell frequency compatibility. Maybe you can find a used one for around $300. But they usually sell for $430~$450.

I don't know what that is...But like I said, 4G is plenty fast.

I'm going with Bell, on Wikipedia its says that I would need the B4, so I guess I'm all right ?

Yeah! You’re fine. 

 

Also consider the iPhone SE used/refurbished. It’s a great phone.
