Noctua NH D15 for the 8700k

I would like to push the 8700k beyond stock speeds. Would the Noctua NH D15 be able to do this? Looking at water cooling, the H100i seems to perform identically (or a bit worse) costs $30 more, and anything beyong a 240mm is beyond my price range. Should the Noctua be able to push the 8700k to say 4.8ghz on all cores? I can't seem to find much thermal information on the 8700k. Most sites either aren't listing the cooler they used, or they aren't saying whether or not they delidded.

Some users are getting 4.7-4.8GHz with single-tower heatsinks and 5.0 on dual-towers or large box coolers.

the D15 is one of the best coolers you can get inc AIO's

Go with the D15s. It is a little smaller, just enough that it doesn't have clearance issue with RAM and some GPUs (mostly ram). Same performance just more clearance.

Instructions for frustration management:  

1) Sit at desk.   2) Repeatedly slam forehead against desk.

D15s has one less fan. Doesn't that affect performance?

Yes, it performs about as well as the NH-D15 with one less fan. It's not that big of a difference though.

If you have a fan at the back of the case, you would basically have two fans, just my opinion though. I have a top fan that blows onto the cooler so the main CPU fan never comes on until the CPU get's above 45 or 50C. I set the fans near the CPU cooler for the CPU temps, so the fans are all based on the CPU temperature. The fans/case stay decently quiet because of this. It is all on how you have it set up. @WoodenMarker is right though.

I'm probably going regular D15. They cost the same where I am and the best value ram is the Corsair LPX, which won't collide with the D15. I appreciate the recommendation though!

dh15 AND if you really want to stay cool as winter run some super high rpm 120 or 140 fans i ran 3000 rpm fans with the stock wire clips from the dh15 for months was louder but it gave better cooling then slower more silent fans included with the cooler. 70c max load on a 6700k at 4.6
