Plus you can wait for prices to drop (though they have come down a bit) and yoink an E5 1680v2 if you want an OCable 8c/16t chip that'll do better with streams.

That too, little bit less powerful than the 2700 but those are damn solid CPUs, i miss my old one tbh, she scored pretty damn well

jesus christ, 3930K's have gotten cheap at the place i frequent, 2 year warranty and all too, but 35 quid, for a 3930K, even on ebay they're 50 quid, that's damn solid

 

Though a nice bundle of a 3930K, rampage 4 formula and the like has caught my attention too

update: shenanigans occuring a high probability, same seller just listed ANOTHER of the exact same board but with accessories. i find it improbable that a seller would have 2 of the same relatively small volume of sale board

There's been sellers with over 5 SR-2s and those are rarer boards. Not really that weird that people have more than one.

If it's the exact same pictures that would be more sus, unless it was multiple units on the same listing. Considering you mentioned this one includes accessories, it's likely a separate board of the same model that they have as a more complete package, makes sense for it to have its own listing.

Though they do have their fair share of issues, I'm still dealing with random uncommon but similar crashes on my X79 rig, I cannot confirm if it's the OC settings or my games or something else .

There's a W series as well, I know of the W3670 (I have one), W3680 I think, and W3690. These aren't as good as the X series it seems, BUT the W3690 specifically can be used in boards that do not support westmere due to having... gulftown microcode IIRC. The W3670 is still a Westmere-EP microcode chip so it plain will not work unless the board supports Westmere-EP, in which case an X series CPU is usually better (confirmed this with my own sample on my V1.0 EVGA boards). The '90 is also cheaper than the i7s so if you need a gulftown/nehalem chip then it's a good choice.

All the Hexacores, both Xeons and i7s, are 32nm chips AFAIK, never seen a 45nm higher than 4 cores. Speaking of quad cores, E series Xeons are low power variants, I have a few quads from that line. They're extremely cheap, good throwaway chips if you just wanna blast voltage through them with no care for longevity, they're also 32nm chips.

The OG i7 quad cores are 45nm chips, which usually aren't the best overclockers. That's flipped totally on its head if you get a golden chip though, golden 45nm chips can crush the 32nm ones easily. I forget who it was here who figured that out, I think @Ground? One of the madlads whose gone through probably 100+ of these chips seeing how the bins are, I think we have a couple of them here .
 

yeah I've by now found 2 45nm chips doing 4.5/1.2V and 4.83/1.33V, though by now I've also found a couple similarly crazy 32nm chips, though they are out of a far larger sample size (about 20kg of chips). Two of them do 5Ghz at around 1.4V.

A few minutes at worst, but generally yes. Should be fairly quickly. But depends on some variables. 

How swap CPUs without clear cmos can cause no post or slow posting.

Indeed! RAM isn’t super amazing, but it’s doing about 1750Mhz at CL8-9-8-22 with 1.65v, running Memtest86 now.

That's ECC registered memory? What sticks exacltly?
