GPU's are way over priced.

Games are so far not that great unless you just want to play PubG or CSGO. What i mean is for a console gamer... nothing that enticing other than the fact they can go from 240P to 4K or whatever.

 

 

Online retailers are now advertising their cards as mining cards, benchmark sites are now benching mining performance.

 

The end is near.

The 580 here in UK is 350+

1060 is the same.

 

GTX 1080 is near 1000.

must be a canadian thing because they are still selling for $450+ on average on newegg in the US.  there are 2 cards for less though.  one is a gigabyte one is an xfx.  They are both still about $70 more than I think they should be.

Also why I chose to stick to my old GPU, unfortunately, we might start seeing other people implement currency mining through the use of other components. Truthfully, there's two ways cryptocurrency can affect the industry. In the long run, if the currency remains stable, companies can produce cards specifically for mining while enabling features on the card for consumer performance that prevent mining from occuring. Either companies start creating cards specifically for mining in a completely different category or we work together as consumers to crash the market.

This has been ongoing since ... I want to say 2012? It's just that resellers and retailers finally caught onto the advertising marketing bandwagon in hopes to swindle more money out of people. This is the main reason I decided to buy an EVGA GTX 950 2GB FTW card instead of a Ti model, or a GTX 1050 card. (Actually, I didn't buy a 1050 because nVidia reduced the number of monitors you could hook up... because logic.) That and the fact that Canadian money is worthless when it comes to computer parts and video games.

Well yeah it does mean it's not worth playing if it's just bad but that is subjective and i added my own bias.

Never had a clue, had my eye on GPU's ever since the 780 arrived DOA, R9 Fury arrives tomorrow which i got for 260 shipped.. which is a miracle of a price.

If it's bad, sure, but do you seriously mean to say that in your opinion pubg and csgo are the only pc games worth playing? If that's the case I respect your opinion but most people will disagree, and that shouldn't be used as an argument for why it's a bad time to get into pc gaming...

It stupid that prices haven't changed. How I got my graphics card was ironic. My friend gave me one of his 5 AMD 7950's because he stopped Mining for bitcoin. Btw, he gave me the card 3 years for free and it still works fine. He only mined for 1 month.

Mining is essentially a gpgpu application (where general purpose applications are coded for execution on a GPU). Even if you blacklist popular miners, more can be coded for a gaming card. Preventing mining on gaming cards isn't a realistic possibility, meaning that the mining specific cards must be of a substantially lower cost for miners to buy them before gaming cards.

You can get the 580 8gb <£300 brand new from one of the major computer online stores (yes, that is still more than it should be). You just need to go to their forums to find the voucher code to take off the mining inflator price on their website - also, it is limited to 1 per order if I remember correctly.  

Edit: NM, the voucher expired 31st July, but was valid for over a month.
