There are a number of problems, or justified concerns here.  The examples they've shown as products to purchase are the bottom of the barrel, and speaks volumes to Beths desire for a money grab.  That said, going this route is the only way PS4 users are going to get mods with customs assets.  Sony would not allow their users to get mods where their dev actually made something of their own.  So Beth came up with a rubber stamp system for mods to be published under Beths license so PS4 console users can get horse armour mods, and by get obviously mean buy.

 

I'm not sure if the person(s) who made that C.Club trailer could have picked worse content to highlight, have a hard time imaging that they could have.  Like really, induvidual weapon and armour mods?  Crab and horse armour?  Dafaq are you doing?

 

I also am aware that the donation system doesn't really work either since free is the most attractive price of all, and most people have to REALLY like a mod inorder to bring themselves to donate.

 

IDK man.  I'm for the C.Club for now, but I fully expect the corporate types to fuck it all up fast.(they always do)

The problem specifically with Bethesda charging money for mods is that they release such broken games it is usually up to modders to fix them and fill in the gaps. With paid mods, Bethesda will not only be relying on the community to do the remaining 5-15% of the work they should have done, but now they will be profiting from it. It's nice that the modders will also get something for their work (which is very much deserved), but that is besides the point.

as long as they don't take the current free sites down or make it ''illegal'' to distribute free mods via nexus and such then i don't have a problem it they give a paid alternatve that is priced right(no 2 euro weapon mods please) and supports the mod creators. i just hope that this won't take away to many free mods for the console users.

The whole thing was shitty.  I was part of the modding community when they allowed mods on the console versions of Skyrim.  People started selling other people's mods.  Bethesda refused to take them down at the request of the authors.

God I hope they don't go after Nexus.  That will give me literally zero incentive to play any of their games or get future ones they release.  Or better yet they will "update" the game to lockout mods that aren't through Bethesda...now theres a thought.

While I am one strongly against the concept of paid mods, for political reasons, I need to know what the split of money will be. Specifically, now much of the purchase price are the mod developers getting?

Mods which add a tons of new contents like story line, quests etc. I think they are just like DLC.

If they are of really high quality I don't mind paying for those.

But more than half of the mods I use are there to fix glitches and broken game mechanisms because bethesda did a half assed job in the first place. Get your shit together first bethesda.

Honestly I see no issues with what has been shown at this point. My only real potential issues are, how good the QA and Application processes will be, and the cut the modders get.

I honestly find it amusing with how many people are against the concept of paid modding, even though if properly implemented would bring higher quality content (In some cases higher quality than vanilla content(Look at Millenia on Nexus)), and further prolong the life of these games by allowing Teams to form and create large scale DLC/Expansion like content knowing they will have some form of compensation (Outside of inconsistent and unreliable donation systems). Personally I look forward to seeing what happens, and as long as the modders get a fair (and majority) cut, and it doesn't get flooded with low quality and overpriced content, I think it will allow people who would otherwise completely ignore using their skills as 3d modelers, coders, etc, for modding  to provide interesting and new experiences.

If done right, this can be a good thing. As long as:

 

1.) They don't touch free mods

2.) They don't force exclusivity on the paid mods. (So modders can put their mods in both free and their paid site). (This allows users to safely pay modders they wish to support)

3.) Paid mods are actually MUCH higher quality than free ones. (better optimized, less bugs, better compatibility with other mods, easy installation and removal)
