ROG new design of slim gaming laptops revlead at computex 2017, "The ROG  Zephyrus G501 is the answer to your conundrum. If you crave gaming power, its 7th Gen. Intel Core i7 CPU and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 graphics" in a 15 inch package at "only 17.9 mm thin and weighs in at 2.2kg" there is also an AMD version for those AMD enthusiasts ;) rocking the "new Ryzen 1700 CPU. Pair that with Radeon RX 580 graphic"

A little too much bezel for my liking, but that seems to be how gaming laptops roll. I think the bezels and the display should all be on the same plane, rather than the display set back behind the bezels.

Also that keyboard position is absolutely awful. The areas either side of the trackpad aren't for looks, they're for you to rest your hands while you type/use the trackpad. And a vertical trackpad is awful all around...

This is a laptop I would love to have, so much smaller than my last ROG machine which was heavy.

Yeah I agree on most of what you said but I would use a mouse so the trackpad would not bother me much but I'm always on the lookout for a game laptop that wound brake my back when ever I want to move it some where :) I currently have an asus ROG laptop that weighs about 4.5Kg

I like the layout, I don't use the track pad [never liked it] so this is good for me.

I definitely agree that it's nice to see some nice lightweight machines, and you're right, you shouldn't game with a trackpad (although I used to play Minecraft on a MacBook trackpad when I was 14...). That said, I don't always want to carry a mouse and often I use a laptop to get quick tasks done on the go, and a mouse won't work well on the train, bus or other small space.

Hopefully it performs better than my MSI ghost pro which I am sending in due to performance issues/cooling.

That's pretty much how all displays are built. It's probably for structural support of the LCD and the frame. Otherwise you're left using something like adhesive to secure the LCD to the body.

 

Even bezelless displays like the Sharp Aquos Crystal and Samsung Galaxy Edge use a trickery of light to get the effect they're "bezelless".

I mean something like the way Apple does it, or how it is on any tablet or something like the HP Envy. It's nice to have a single sheet of glass rather than protruding, matte black bezels. This way just feels a little cheap.

Then you can't have a matte finish on the display. And there's probably no clean solution to do something over the entire display unit like on a glossy finish one (that or they don't care for cost reasons)

To be honest, I do prefer glossy screens. Especially now we have really good anti glare coatings for them. But I accept some people prefer a matte display.
