I have one and it's absolutely fantastic. Never buy canned air again it they also have more pressure(that doesn't drop while you use it) than cans so it'sway more effective.

in a serious note tho, contact a local diving shop, and ask pricing on their smallest tank, and if they can supply the other necessary equipment as well. my estimate would be that after 3-4 cans of difluorethane you got your return on investment.

 

my aunt has a diving shop, and she actually uses a compressed air tank with a regulator, a long high pressure hose, and one of those high pressure spray nozzles you can get at the hardware store for cleaning out equipment.

Will the shop fill your tank without seeing a diver certification card?  Here in the US they won't.

 

Cheaper to get a small compressor.

 

Even cheaper to use a vacuum and ground the nozzle to prevent ESD.

keep microfiber cloths away from your electronic components, you being grounded or not, the charge from rubbing the multitude of tiny fibers on things is made for instant charging to pick up dust and can discharge leaving you with the need to replace components.

I am considering making my own homebrew compressor at some point, but my local diy store doesnt have one-way air pressure valves.

 

Some ballin' centrifugal fans (yknow, the ones in laptops, but bigger and better) would probably do the trick as well, but at the point of finding those you may as well find a cheap small vaccuum cleaner and mod it.

It sounds like you messed up OP.

 

1) Nothing wrong with using "compressed gas" (which is the same as compressed air in this situation) if you use it correctly.

2) When using compressed air, you need to keep the can upright. DO NOT TILT IT OR HOLD IT UPSIDE DOWN. If you do then the gas will come out as a liquid, which is very bad.

3) Do not hold the "trigger" for too long. It is very important that you blow in short bursts. If you hold it for too long then the cold will cause condensation which can harm your computer.

4) Don't eat/inhale it. It's not dangerous in small quantities, but inhaling large quantities can be very dangerous (which is why they added the bitter taste to begin with).

5) Don't clean your PC with a microfiber cloth. Holy crap dude, do you know how much static electricity those things can build up?

Omfg I told you I accidentaly got some in my mouth. I never breathed it in. I was just fucking around with it by getting the cold stuff on my mousepad then making it white

If you don't hold a cloth over the can when using compressed air it condensates and you get that bitter taste on your fingers.

Morale of the story: you can't trust the system.

Again, air consists of gasses. "Compressed air" is not even gas in of itself. The cans are pressurized - the liquid inside evaporates into a gas which is why when you shake the can, you can hear liquid sloshing around.

 

If you hold the can upside down, liquid will spew out.

Datavac, all the way. All the money I wasted on Compressed Gas/Air cans before was just stupid. Since I have my datavac, never looked back! Yeah sure it's a bigger investment to start off, but over time it evens out quickly, especially if you help out other people with their computers sometimes (even if it's just your parents). Besides you always run out of air when you just needed a little bit more.

Some of your information is not inherently true. More specifically, I have it quoted below, with the parts I want to focus on in bold.

It depends on how you have your fans connected. If they're connected to the motherboard directly, then this would probably be true, though not always. In my situation, all of my system fans are connected to a fan controller which never changes unless I make it. Even my video card's fans are running at a constant rate.

 

Now, while I didn't mark this in bold, the statement about dust causing fans to make more noise due to balance is not necessarily true. While I'm sure the weight of dust can over time cause the fan to go out of balance, this is an extreme scenario, and I have not seen fan noise reduce due to removal of dust that was not caused by higher temperatures from other dusty components, like the heatsink.

I understand what you are saying about fan speeds, I assumed everyone is using speed regulation these days but that is maybe a bit too much of an assumption indeed. And if you don't, your temps could go up but not necessarily generate more noise.

 

On the second part, I understand what you're saying but I have actually observed my fans to start make more noise, these where case fans which had been collecting dust in my house for 6 months and when I cleaned them off they made a lot less wind turbulence.

 

But I do certainly agree that cleaning the dust out of your heatsinks is key in the end!

And another reason for short burst or never spray it upside down it to prevent frost bite.

I bought this. It works wonders. My only issue is you can't use it for very long because it warms up fast.
