AM3+ around 100 USD

Guest

I plan to build a pc that uses an am3+ socket. I need as good quality as I can get for around 100 USD or less. My current possible choice is an FX-4350. I plan to run steam games like Garry's Mod, Portal, Kerbal Space Program, and Bioshock Infinite. It doesn't have to run nice at high settings. I just want to be able to play them without extreme lag or other issues.

Will it be much better than the FX-4350? If it will, how much better?

Why do you want to go with AMD? Their stuff is ancient at this point.
I'd do as others have suggested and go LGA1150. Are you looking for budget? New or used?
I picked up a new in box i3 4150 ages ago for $75. It'd destroy the 4350.

Well, I am making a 200 dollar (approximately) very not good pc. I have a 240 dollar budget. I have chosen am3+ and I am the kind of awful person that will not be persuaded. I'm sorry. I want new cpu. Used frightens me.

I thank everyone who replied. My last question is: Would the FX-6350 be any better than the FX-6300?

in far cry 4 and GTA 5 the FX chips will whip the i3 so...not every way is it?

Looking at my signature are we now? Well too bad there's nothing here...

Why? What makes them better at those games?

Cause they require/like 4 threads minimum (as in Far cry 4 won't even launch with dual cores) so the 4 "actual" cores of the FX chips allows better performance vs the 2 real cores and 2 HT threads of the i3 :P

Your 6800k is also way more expensive.

The 4350 is about 80 dollars and the 6800k is about 400 dollars, I would hope that yours is much better. Your CPU is twice as much as the entire computer I am building.

I recently build an FX-6300 machine and it plays Gmod, Portal and every other Source based game just fine, although a P4 will play them mostly fine too. My brother has an 8 core FX and plays KSP just fine, I'd guess Bioshock won't be a problem either.

No upgrade path to anything newer, but if pushing the highest FPS isn't what you want, then no problem there really.

That is very helpful. Thank you.

If your budget cant be altered get an 6300 and overlclock it, or dont. It really is the best cpu in the fx line, cost for peformance that is. I curently use it and i even tried the 8320 witch is the base for all the higher clocked fx seriers and to be honest apart front the cache you wont notice any difference in gaming and normal workloads. Also it is cheap af.

No it wont it is just factory overclocked to a higher speed, save the bucks buy the 6300 and a non stock cooler for it is that you can overlclocked it with out worrying about temperatures, it can easily reach 4,5 without issues.

Just noticed your budget keep in mind that the fx seriers DONT have intergrated graphics so tou will have to buy a gpu.

You've never heard of hyperthreading, have you? i3 have 4 threads and do beat the FX 6350 in GTA 5

Well the benchmarks I've seen says otherwise...especially with a nice little OC on the FX chips...

Here's one from a reputable source;

And the i3 has far lower parts requirements as well (cooler, PSU, motherboard).
