I compared it to a Pentium 4 as they were 1 core 2 threads, similar to the single module APU which are of course 1 module 2 threads with the exact same issues (and TBH-bloody pointless).

No the 6350 is just an overclocked 6300, so yes the 6300 is the best choice for AM3+ don't mind all the intel suggestions.

The FX-6300 does not include a cooler equal to 212 Evo!

Just get a used 771/1366 Xeon. It will smash the FX CPU for a very low price.

You guys should all calm down a little bit. The OP wanted to see if he's making the right decision but the post was becoming a debate over AMD and Intel CPUs. 

 

And if we focus back on the title, the OP has already bought a motherboard, with a AM3+ socket, with an on-board GPU, and now he's seeking for a better CPU. And that would be FX-6300 like a whole lot of folks here suggested. Not the i3, and not a APU. However I do think the GPU was too lame and should be changed into a better one. But well just like said, strict budget. And I see there's a PCIe port on the board so it would be just fine to upgrade a little bit later. 

 

Btw they're still manufacturing GPUs on motherboards these days? Kinda a shock to me.

No, that's simply a complete lack of understanding of hyperthreading and CMT.

Not really,  but that's an old model, I believe from the last Phenom days and compatible with FX. It could potentially still make sense for non-gaming FX and Xeon builds (for example,  to install OS and troubleshoot otherwise "blind boxes"),  but it has been abandoned outside server contexts (probably due to the rarity of those use cases).

CMT is the alternative to Hyperthreading/SMT. In theory its better due to the way it scales multi threaded (aka, despite having the same IPC as an i5 U450M (1.8GHz boost), an A8 4555M (1.8GHz set by Asus) is far better multithreaded. And single module APU are very similar to Pentium 4 in regards to their drawbacks. The APU would just have a higher IPC and not be as inefficient.
