Is Internet Explorer still bad?

My school library computers only have internet explorer, I use it very often and I don't find anything wrong with, why do people give a lot of shit to Internet Explorer? I have heard it used to bad a long time ago but now I think its fine.

MS tells people not to use it. It has holes every where

There was nothing wrong with IE when it was current.  The current generation product is "Edge".

 

The real problem was people, particularly in the 'corporate' world, not upgrading from IE6 or whatever was the top IE that could run on NT 4.0 or Win2k or XP, to the latest versions.  Mozilla and other browsers were able to penetrate these markets.

Internet Explorer was never "bad" it was just lagging behind speed wise compared to offerings from Mozilla and Google. They also offer little to no customization to it. Edge is set to get a big boost with the new update coming. It will be interesting, but I doubt many will switch back to it.

IE11 is ok. It is more of a barebone web browser, and support just enougth web standard (and has effort from web site dev so that things appear correctly for it specifically) making usable and enjoyable, as a basic offering. But as people are switching to Windows 10, and IE is being killed off, web dev will no longer take care for IE specifically (an on going issue with the IE web browsers), and things will start to break down on you as support is cut. But, it wont' be cut tomorrow, and even then, it is still fine. minor page issues visual here and there on select web sites won't kill anyone.

 

But, you want to use web browsers that uses web standards, and does a good job implementing them to ensure a great experience no matter the site, and that is faster, more responsive, and feature rich. Although, IE11 has great high-DPI support and impressive scrolling speeds, which its replacement: Edge, continues with, and improved upon.

 

Each web browser has their ups and down.

For example:

- Chrome focuses on speed. But it eats a lot of RAM and consumes a lot of CPU power reducing substantially Windows powered laptop/tablets battery life.

 

- Firefox isn't the fastest web browser, but its focus on privacy, something you don't have with Chrome and Edge (Chrome fully tracks you and associate you to your Google account, Edge is too new to know, but you can assume that there is tracking to some level, especially if you use Cortana).

 

- Edge focus is on providing a balance of speed, responsiveness and being light on the system maximizing battery life, and provides you an excellent multi-touch, scrolling and high-DPI experience. The web browser is in active development to catch up to other web browsers. With the anniversary update of Windows 10 is is faster than ever, and support extensions.

 

- Opera is switching things now, and taking a new path. So far, it looks like they are taking the Chrome web browser engine, but gives your privacy, and tries to bring the engine to a level that is power saving, gaining a lot of battery life over Chrome.
