PC/Console Graphics comparison

I dno though. When I look at ps3 games then ps4 games, there is an okay big difference, then again.

Gtx 7800, which I think ps3 ran is pretty slow, compared to The new radeon hd 7850 performance

 

I think there's a definite difference just not one as big as the jump between other generations.

Using cost to compare PC to Consoles is irrelevant and a big waste of time. Why? Because everyone has different preferences as to what holds more "value/worth" and "enjoyment" to them, cost aside. The only way to compare by cost is in a by-case scenario and that's it. It cannot be conformed to suit or cover all situations. It just can't. There are too many additional factors and costs which can easily sway one platform to cost significantly more than the other. It's not so black and white as some of you try to make it.

 

Cost aside, PC will always perform better, look better and have more capability than anything a console can muster in terms of gaming performance and visual fidelity. This is a fact. It doesn't matter if Xbox one can run Fallout 4 at 1080p because it's only at 30fps or less, which is crap. (I'm sorry, it just is). Some motion-blur effects and TV software trickery smooths this out a little, but it's still crap. You buy a console for the exclusives and the games, not for the graphics and frame rates.

The problem is there are additional costs and factors beyond the price point that have significant impact. Aside from monetary value, people will attach more or less value to certain aspects, depending on their personal preferences, which throws monetary value out the window. 

 

You can say "with a PC, you can do lot's of other things besides gaming.", to which person "A" will reply "yeah, that is a good thing", yet person "B" will reply "who cares, I just want to play games on it". See the problem? And you will get the same type of answers if you said "A PC can be further upgraded.". Some people just don't care because that aspect does not hold value to them. The cost argument can only be properly applied/examined in a by-case scenario, taking one person's preferences into account at a time. It's not the some for everyone in every situation.

To be fair, the SSD is not entirely necessary, especially with an entry level system.

 

I didn't have an SSD with my first build, it was an addon down the road.

 

Also I think it's safe to assume that not everyone has to deal with UK pricing.

From what I've read online, anywhere outside of Canada or US has to deal with similar prices.

Good joke. They run in the high 20s and the Xbox one gets 0FPS freezes everywhere. Horrible

granted that is horrible its not typical of most xbox games to get that type of freezes. My fallout game with my 290 goes from 60FPS constant and randomly drops to 30s often enough that its ridiculous seems to be a badly optimized game that has huge drops.  Not defending xbox too much less than 1080p 30fps sucks even if it is steady lol

Change shadow distance to medium in settings. Enjoy a much more consistent 60fps and no more random drops to 30.

i shall try this later i have it on High 1440p and no AA/ very low Anti and still havent been able to keep the 60FPS only game i really struggle with though i have a very limited library the only other game i have thats on the harder side to run is dying light which i play at 2160p mostly high and some medium and keep 60fps.  Though i have read Fallout is just hard in general to keep 60FPS due to many reasons it seems to like high Frequency ram and CPU Usage you get dips even with an Higher end I7 though mine does seem to be very GPU limited

Yeah i mean its not what i would call Broken like Batman was  though i think everyone is giving it a pass because its fallout and its Not Crazy bad where its still playable but can be annoying at times. i think they should just address this and say there working on it and give a time line of when they expect some updates for it and i would be happy. I guess i just like when a company comes out and says we know were working on it were sorry and dont give a terrible excuse as to why lol. I havent had any driver updates for my card since the game launched so maybe if one comes out this will help too but the drop seems to be too drastic for that IMO  to be the solution seems more like its the games problem but thats a wild guess

No prob. That frame drop issue you described I also ran into and so have many other people (on both Nvidia and AMD, high and low-end GPUs). The general consensus, thus far, seems to be that having shadow distance on anything but medium causes some kind of heavy single threaded load bottleneck and just bombs the frame rate down to 30 (or lower) in certain locations in the game - even though GPU usage and CPU usage appears to be nowhere near max. The game definitely needs some more optimizations, but yeah, your 290 should rock this game with shadow settings on medium.

I'm not a fanboy, in fact I'm new to the Fallout series with this one. I wouldn't call it broken, not even close. It has issues and needs further optimization, but it can and does run and play well on a wide range of hardware from high to low end. Something that can't be said of other recent titles which had far more issues.  

 

FO4 feels a lot like Skyrim (same engine) and it carried with it some of the more known Skyrim glitches. Nothing game-breaking though. After updating to the latest drivers (with FO4 optimizations), I haven't had any more crashing or freezing. Pretty solid game, IMO.

Every time this comes up the truth rarely gets discussed. When I worked for a developer it wasn't graphics that had console customers making my life hell, it was Steam. With a console you can only buy the game through the manufacturer and that goes for DLC too. When Xbox live and the PSN were down, our PC customers kept on playing.

I think you hit on a key benefit of PC gaming... it's the freedom.

 

You know I don't like Apple products for the exact same reason I don't like consoles.... If I buy a piece of hardware I expect to be able to bend it to my will... not to have some corporation telling me what I can and can't do.

To me the only reason to buy a console is you have the available money and you insist on playing an exclusive title. For me the Naughty Dog titles are enough to buy a Sony console, but I could see that not being the case for a lot of people. If the game is available on PC, it's almost always better if not equal. Sometimes there are some really bad PC ports where, if you have the console, you might be better off with that version, but otherwise I'd still rather own it on PC.

I get what you are saying... and sure if money is no object and there is a game that you absolutely can't get anywhere else then get a console... AS WELL AS A PC

 

Talking about exclusives the PC doesn't just have exclusives (XCOM2 anyone)... it tends to have exclusive dlc content... not to mention Mods.... there is also the total genre's that are exclusive to PC such as RTS and offshoots.

What you have to take into account when someone says they are building a console killer is they are picking their components based upon price... now since PC hardware continuously drops in price with time.. the longer the time goes by the easier it is to build a PC that out performs the consoles at the same or cheaper price.

 

Given that the consoles cannot manage 1080p beyond 30fps, a 750ti could certainly equal or better that on most older games. The Achilles heel of the 750ti is the Vram, which at 2gb is insufficient for many modern games at anything other than low to mid settings.

 

That taken into account at the time when the XBONE and the PS4 were still relatively new a pc build with the 750 ti in it could run any game there was, and better than either the consoles could.

You missed it, it is on topic. What do graphics mean? You can't just factor the initial cost, you have to consider the cost of software. That means the console would have to be free to even begin to compete.

To those who are console. I get what you're going for. I really do, but think about it. What's stopping you from plugging a wireless remote, keyboard, mouse, headset, what-have-you. Into a computer, and doing the exact same thing you'd do on a console? 

 

The detail and FPS difference is very noticeable to me, and if you can't see it well... I won't further stress that point, but please do agree that PC has better graphics. If I was to even have a gaming utility for the TV I would build a PC for it, and have my remote controllers. I honestly think that consoles have no place at all in this world. Despite your reasoning. "Exclusives". There would be no exclusives if everyone kicked the bucket, and joined the PC Master Race, once and for all. For the betterment of everyone. There is no competition between Console and PC. All the competition is between AMD and Intel, we need more companies to raise that competition in the PC gaming world so that we, as a community, as a tech race. Get better graphics and better fps's all around the world. The more competition, the more progress in tech!
