Actually they struggle to run 1080p@30.

 

They use adaptive resolutions and even then performance stutters and Frames drift below 30 especially on the Xbone.

Actually fallout 4, they both run 1080p@30

Rather high settings. Only grass quality was low I think.

Good joke. They run in the high 20s and the Xbox one gets 0FPS freezes everywhere. Horrible

Just keeping this here as a On Digital foundry video, especially the PS4 dips a lot. Surprisingly enough.

The best place for this kind of information is Digital Foundry's YouTube channel. They often have comparisons whereby they pit the 8th-gen consoles against what they consider to be a budget PC, comprising of an i3-4130 and GTX 750 Ti (I'd say it was reaosnable) in new titles, such as Fallout 4, Star Wars: Battlefront, etc etc.

That's the best place to look.

Comparing Console to PC is silly.

 

Since the Consoles hardware is fixed and the PC is totally open architecture with configurations which are all but infinite in scope.... 

 

Anyone who thinks they can go out and spend £400 on a console and expects to beat a PC where the graphics card alone cost more than that is beyond me.

 

I mean I spent a great deal of time, effort, money, sweat, blood and all but tears lol.. on my pc.. why did I do that?? Because I want the absolute best performance from my hardware as I can get... I want to get my hardware to do what I want it to do and not what a organisation like Apple / sony or Microsoft (within reason) say I can or can't do. 

 

So the age old argument of Consoles Vs. Pc's is a non argument....

 

In fact I think the Playstation and the Xbox are in for a rough time in the not too distant future, Given that the PC will evolve into two main markets.... the cut down Pico PC along the lines of the Steam Machine but better.... and the rest of us true PC gamers with top end rigs.

I have to disagree. The whole point of the argument boils down to what the interested party is going to purchase. Consoles have their pros and cons, likewise for a PC. Comparing a console to a similarly priced PC for the purposes of gaming is absolutely justified, if the similarly priced PC can beat the console in terms of graphical fidelity and performance (or vice versa).

Adaptive resolutions?

 

It means that the game changes resolution from 1080p (usually) to a lower resolution in order to keep a consistent frame rate. As far as I've seen it works pretty well, particularly when higher frame rates are more important than impressive visuals.

You missed the point.... the hardware of a similar priced PC could contain a near infinite number of configurations, If you have watched any of the recent Scrapyard wars vids you will see that in some cases you can buy the components to build a current gen console beating PC for under $300.... and I'm not talking beaten by a little either I'm talking totally destroyed.

WOAH WOAH WOAH. When the hell did I say you need years of experience to build a PC!? I merely said that Scrapyard Wars is a moot comparison because the contestants have years of knowledge.

Nor did I say that building PCs was hard, I found my first build pretty easy. I was referring to the hardware choices, which for new builders, is difficult. EDIT: Which can be made more difficult if you're buying secondhand components, following your suggestion.

Saying a GTX 580 is a good card also isn't great. Whilst I'm sure its capable, you need to be especially wary of the power supply you use because it's a power hungry card. When I was building my first PC, amperage over the 12V rail was NOT at the top of my mind.

Don't incorrectly take what I say out of context and use it as a counter-argument.

No, because you would be able to play fallout 4 with an average of 45-50 maybe?

You can get windows for dirt cheap depending on where you look or you can download windows 10 and just not activate it.

WOAH WOAH WOAH. When the hell did I say you need years of experience to build a PC!? I merely said that Scrapyard Wars is a moot comparison because the contestants have years of knowledge.

Nor did I say that building PCs was hard, I found my first build pretty easy. I was referring to the hardware choices, which for new builders, is difficult. EDIT: Which can be made more difficult if you're buying secondhand components, following your suggestion.

Saying a GTX 580 is a good card also isn't great. Whilst I'm sure its capable, you need to be especially wary of the power supply you use because it's a power hungry card. When I was building my first PC, amperage over the 12V rail was NOT at the top of my mind.

Don't incorrectly take what I say out of context and use it as a counter-argument.

It means that the game changes resolution from 1080p (usually) to a lower resolution in order to keep a consistent frame rate. As far as I've seen it works pretty well, particularly when higher frame rates are more important than impressive visuals.

So in simple It's Like youtube going from 1080p to 720p when your net becomes slow suddenly ?

So @Slick & @LinusTech did a video some time ago,

where the consoles could barely keep up with an underclocked GTX 480.

 

What is the status now?

 

People are saying that they perform as Radeon HD 7870, which is quite powerful.

I would love to see an updated video, on graphics/fps comparison on newer titles, and to see if the consoles have started performing better.

full 1080p@30.

And what level of hardware you need to get the same performance.

 

Are they more worth the money now than before?

depends on the game

 

For most games, they arent much stronger then a GTX 500 or HD 6000 series....

On average they are around a GTX 750/750TI paired with a Athlon 750k (in terms of desktop parts)

For some games, like Battlefront 3, they are equal to a Core i3 4130 + GTX 950 (750TI cannot get same settings at locked 60 FPS)

Then you comment about scenarios which a new builder should follow to save money and increase performance, but using the argument of secondhand parts, which I feel is not appropriate. A new builder doesn't know what they're looking at and what the price of it should be, especially if it's a legacy product. Not to mention the current condition of any secondhand products, or the previous knowledge of requirements to run a component, such as the power hungry GTX 580.

It is a completely valid argument. What one feels is the best product for them after the argument has been presented is, frankly, none of my concern. Of course, I'm always going to suggest a PC, but that's a whole different argument entirely.

I think we have to agree to disagree on that.... Comparing two similar products in the same category.. sure... but PC's and Consoles just aren't...

 

Consoles as we have known them will die out anyway within the next few years... then there won't be anything to argue about anyway :)

In an ideal world, consoles would be comparable to mid level PCs, which they're not at the moment. I think this console generation is the least ambitious for a while, especially if you look back at previous generations. The PS2 was far superior to the PS, the PS3 was far superior to the PS2 but the PS4 isn't a huge step up from the PS3 in the same way that previous generations were.

Its been all around talk like Console Vs. Pc they will never be the same, if the console could be par with the pc console wouldnt even exists in the first place, in terms of graphics of course console will be not in the same detailed quality like pc due to what? hardware use and coding. Also, lets say they made a consolde that can play full 1080p at 60 then the cost of hardware will be much higher and people will prefered pc over the console. In addition the main point of console is 1. low cost than pc, 2. "OK" detail performance 3. Exclusive console games.

 

No bashing its just my point of view

Absolutely wholeheartedly agree.

 

I think both Sony and Microsoft have attempted to go down the buy into a service route as opposed to really investing in R&D for the actual physical hardware.

 

The exact reason most people wanted to turn away from them in the first place I might add.

I dno though. When I look at ps3 games then ps4 games, there is an okay big difference, then again.

Gtx 7800, which I think ps3 ran is pretty slow, compared to The new radeon hd 7850 performance xD
