Scrapyard Wars Season 3 - With Scrappy Guest Austin Evans!

His power supply plan * should * work.... if only he plugged the 4pin connector in correctly. One of them was sideways on a 90 degree angle..

I don't think he can plug the second 4pin in correctly. They are electrically compatible but I think the shape of the pins will be wrong.

Does Austin have any PC building experience at all? Why does Linus keep talking about "back alley guy"? If they have no budget why don't they just go to the store and buy a power supply that is guaranteed to work for around 40/50 bucks and just use craigslist for stuff like the graphics card/CPU/motherboard? Why does Luke go on and on about the screws on the bracket of the GPU? Just find something that fits and don't use DVI.

Well getting a brand new PSU for like 40 bucks seems like the obvious option now that we know two of them got bad PSUs. That would have been like 20 dollars more expensive though. It's a price:performance war so they want to save as much money as possible.

I don't either, as the pins are different and it is keyed. Only works one way unless you FORCE it in. Its not designed for two power sources. In "most" cases you can just use 4 of the 8, as long as he's not planning on overclocking, so I wonder if he has a dead motherboard or other piece of hardware. I just hope he didn't completely fry everything. I'm not sure why he didn't wonder why it was difficult to put in, or, why he thought it was okay to have the clips in different positions?

I like having the "underdog newbie" on scrapyard wars this time. Austin isn't much of a hardware/build custom computers guy, right? Mostly just product reviews? I have not watched more than a few of his videos. I assume he doesn't know much about building computers at all - or he's just really bad under pressure.

I was cringing so much this episode :D

OMG getting close there guys! I'm guessing Lukes'gonna win this, because of the R9 290x he got for $180 CAN. Though Austin could have the advantage with the HD 6990. Dual GPU MasterRace!

No. It's ~30% slower. This even compared to the 290 non-x version Luke has.

I think the cringe factor is the main reason I enjoy the SYW series so much. It's entertaining, but you probably should following 90% of what they're doing.

I think Austin is going to mess up with that power supply plan.

I think that way too, his plan just seems so risky. Luke, meanwhile, seems to have the most well-laid-out plan, so I think he's gonna win too.

This is why you should check the connectors on a power supply and the motherboard before you buy the power supply.

@everyone. I know I heard them mention it before but what is the Youtube release schedule verses Vessel? Do they release it to vessel a week early?

I think he makes about a build every three months and he always uses brand new parts so of course he is at a disadvantage against Luke and Linus who already did two scrappy builds.

Most of his videos are about mobile devices and consoles.

Why is SpongeBob the main character when Patrick is the star?

Anywhere from 11PM-2AM pacific. Very occasionally, Linus mentions new uploads on his twitter feed. After 2AM though, he'll usually mention if the uploads are late.

IMO ep6 on Vessel tonight is the best of this season by far.

That's not too hard considering how previous episodes went. Hope that final episode rocks and shows the builds at last properly.
