ThePylon 5.5 - Supporting the Future

TheProfosist

I mean ill take the complement but you dont think it looks good? :(

No it looks amazing, it just looks good in a "work" style, for a different audience if that makes sense  :D

Oh you mean like enthusiast? Personally I cant stand flashy "gamer" aesthetics. That black with like super high contrast has gotten old. Something like this that has a couple colors but plays in a theme has much more depth I think. I like the more natural pallet which is a reason why I actually like Noctua. Also Fractal's new fans are gorgeous. Its a real bummer that that air flow ones arn't PWM as they have a great line up otherwise.

Looks like ThePylon is getting a surprise upgrade. Turns out that I was finally able to sell the core components of Anthrax 7.0 to a friend but he did not want to pay for the Corsair Dominator 32GB (4x8GB) 1866mhz cas 9 set. At this point I really needed to move the stuff so I instead sold the ram from ThePylon. This means that it gets a healthy upgrade that the likelihood of it using it quite low but hey, it looks good?

Below is a pic when I first got the ram along with a new processor to do an upgrade on Anthrax (6.0 at the time).

Wait, what? My HTPC/Server needs a better GPU?

No it didnt make it... I have a feeling its probably too good. Kyle told me outright that was the case for Anthrax 7.0

Uh... abouy the pylon, what's up eith the GTX 960 .-.(?)

Are you saying too good or not good enough?

Its a HTPC/File Server? Also my old desktop. I wouldnt go any higher really for that as it handles 1080p for gaming very well and can do 4K output for the future for at least video. 4GB memory for that same reason. Also on that specific 960 the fans dont turn on until 60C, which means almost never.

$300 CPU with $200 GPU.... doesn't make sense.

And the ram that recently go swapped in was even more expensive than that. Not much of this build makes sense since its my old desktop. A 960 4GB is plenty powerful to push the 1080p resolution of my TV.

How's the airflow of the front intake with the Noctua NF-P14? I noticed that the front intake of the R5 is more restrictive than Enthoo Luxe. If it is good i am considering changing it to the same fans too

Sorry about the delay. The fans do very good. The P series it's kind of a balance between AF and AP. With the setup ThePylon has the fans rarely exceed 400-500rpm.

lol usually that not what people are interested in at least for the other build logs. But ill get there and itll go through a couple revisions before it gets to where it is now. Im finally happy with it though, meets all my needs.

Oh the really old one, well it was a pain and I might have modded it one too many times. Also the top and sides were all one piece with nine screws so opening it up was a real pain. Ill see if I have any pictures of it anywhere but I have a feeling its gone as in 2011 my server at the time took a dump and took everything with it. I can only imagine that pics of it were on there.

The pic below is close though no top 3.5 bay. I think youll understand the idea though.

What is in the top compartment? Seems like a huge waste of space

Those are all 5.25 bays in the from back when everything was that. In the back in the PSU and a fan or possibility of a second PSU. I filled the 5.25 bays on mine with adapters for HDDs and modded a 120mm fan to fit above the PSU.
