Every time they say mac hit them

Have you told them the pros and cons of a macbook compared to other laptops running windows in the same price range? and maybe compare specs and explain to them what they mean.

My dad agrees with Me, but

@spwath All you can do is show the benefits the Air has over the MB, or performance between the two for price and let them decide.

I would honestly go for the Macbook. It serves it's purpose as a DD for Uni or work. It's also lighter. Something a lot of kiddies in this forum don't get since they're not used to haul their 17'', 5kg Aliensexual™ Gaymenware™ 1337™ Edition™.

Especially the people ITT saying to ditch Mac OS altogether. It's almost as if people have preferences for OSes and the freedom to choose or something, holy crap.

Are you mad? This is a great thing. I assume you're the tech guy in the family so you won't spent hours trying to fix your sisters laptop because she downloaded too many toolbars or managed to get a virus again. 

Back to topic: I'd just tell her how much more she gets for her money with the Air. I'd call the New Macbook an iPad with a keyboard.

EDIT: Also the low resale value since it's a first gen product. Nobody wanted an ipad after the iPad2 was released. I imagine that the same will happen to the new macbook

It's a bit. It's also a bit thinner.

She'll use it essentially for daily shit, right? Like text edition, youtube, etc? A Macbook is enough for that. But eh, you can always tell her the MBA is more versatile if she wants to do more than that.

But I'd buy the Macbook for the screen and that miraculous trackpad alone.

LTT is filled with "techie" kids. "Techie" kids think it's cool and rad to yell everything Apple makes is shit.

Those so called "techie" kids also think specs are everything, they kind of forget there a lot of corners cut in quality to fit an i7 and a 960M into the same price bracket.

Thing is, Apple laptops are the best in the market, all things considered. I'm talking about the screen, input interfaces, battery life, build quality and native OS.

Show her the XPS 13. Its beautiful and is a really good laptop.

Until it breaks... I had this same Dell monitor in the past (my current one is refurbished). The shitty stand (pre-installed) broke off and shattered the screen and broke by old keyboard. I had to spend hours and hours in a constant loop on support. It took forever to get a replacement. That's one thing that Apple does well - support. I recommend Lenovo laptops too. My dad uses an X1 Carbon Gen 2 for work and my sister has a Yoga Pro 2. I had a cheapo i3 and it was great. They also have very good customer service. At least they use Americans who are literate.

Her getting a macbook is great for you, because you have less problems to fix. For the rest, please refer to my earlier comment.

All you can do is provide them enough information for them to make the decision fully informed. After that if they still get the Macbook, then that's what they want, an iPad Pro basically.

The Air is much better, its a little more flexible for wha you can use it for, but in the end it's their choice.

You won't need to shell out an extra $100 to plug USB type a devices in if she gets the MacBook Air and that it's cheaper by default than the new MacBook?

I am not sure the USB argument holds that much weight for it's intended usage. Most situations where information needs to be imported will be handled by email, icloud, etc. So while some people need more connectiity it's not really necessary for basic work using a computer.
