Just need to vent....

Sat1600

I'm selling a build today. The guy doesn't seem to know a lot about PCs. His son wants to play arma 3 and squad. The system has a ryzen 5 1600 and an RX 580 8gb.

The buyer asked if he picked up a hard drive if I could install. I said sure and sent him to microcenter.

The buyer calls me from the store and says that a salesman told him that he needs a more powerful graphics card. He wanted to sell him a 1660ti for $270. He told him that an rx 580 is not powerful enough and the game WOULD NOT WORK. WOULD NOT WORK!!!

Recommended settings on arma 3 is gtx 660 for crying out load.

I don't mind if the gut l guy said that the 1660ti is a more powerful card. True enough. But you have to lie?

He's a salesman, his job is to convince people to buy stuff.

The truth is not good enough? The 1660ti is a better card. What's wrong with just saying that?

Be angry at the buyer who can't be bothered to do a quick google search to understand roughly how these products stack up rather than the person just doing his job.

Welcome to Microcenter.

This is why I tell people to use their pickup now instead of finding it themselves. It's pretty much know what you're there for, or get talked into buying something you don't need.

We had a guy in a game I play go to Microcenter to buy new monitors to use with his 1080ti (Was using a TV)

Got talked into buying 1080p freesync monitors, even though we told him to get Gync Monitors. (2 years ish ago.)

it happens on all levels, ur buyer doesn't know anything, while even as builders we don't know what's exactly under the hood of certain products, which is why in retrospec i make at least 1 mistake on every build in retrospec. As for the salesman, he's just doing his job, not every1 has the balls to quit their job if the only thing they have to do is dish out minor lie to customers, and they both go home happy (ignorance is bliss).

I quit a very easy job back in the days because i had to lie daily about the actual components of certain products, i quit after awhile mainly because of that, but financially it made 0 sense for me lol.

Both sides are at fault in this case imho, ur buyer isn't doing basic research, and the salesman lying, happens on the daily, not something to lose sleep over.

With experience it's much more satisfying to convince someone to buy a premium product without having to lie, but that's a niche market, not every1 appreciates quality anyway, alot of customers just want cheap.

There is an easy way to tell if a salesman is lying. If his lips are moving, he is lying.

I find it appalling that people here feel it is alright for sales people to lie with some even saying it is their job to do so. Lying to a customer is called fraud and is illegal.

Oh I got him on the phone and called him out. I'm annoyed that he was making me out to be a liar. Here I am telling him that this is a great 1080p gaming pc and it won't even run arma3
