Purpose of this connector

Faisal A

That's internal USB 3.0, if your mainboard has that, it'll say so in the manual

Come Bloody Angel

Break off your chains

And look what I've found in the dirt.

Pale battered body

Seems she was struggling

Something is wrong with this world.

Fierce Bloody Angel

The blood is on your hands

Why did you come to this world?

Everybody turns to dust.

Everybody turns to dust.

The blood is on your hands.

The blood is on your hands!

Pyo.

From left to right: internal USB 3.0 (for the USB 3.0 USB 3.1 Gen 1 USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports), SATA data (for the eSATA port), molex power, audio (I think that's speaks for itself..) and USB 2.0 internal, likely for the card reader part.

All the cables plug into your motherboard, except the molex one; that goes to your PSU. Check if you have the necessary connectors on your motherboard and PSU.

Get something like this. Probably cheaper ones out there, I just clicked the first result. https://www.ebay.com/itm/USB-3-0-20-pin-to-USB-2-0-Motherboard-9pin-Internal-Cable-Adapter-Connector/183784993669?hash=item2aca707385:g:I1oAAOSw6JNcuslE

if you don't plug the blue cable in a usb 3 header, the two usb 3 ports on the thing won't work.

You can buy a usb 3 to usb 2 adapter which would allow you to plug into a usb 2 header, and those two ports will work but at usb 2 speeds.

As mentioned above, a PCIE card might do the trick too.

It's not uncommon for modern boards to have one USB 3.0 and one USB 2.0 internal port, sometimes they have more.

Just about any modern board will have USB 3 in my experience.

What I was talking about (maybe I should have made that more clear) is that all boards have at least 1 USB 3.0 internal and 1 USB 2.0 internal, some have more (well, most boards you buy now have multiple 3.0 ports).

Reason I say this is because I assume OP's case also has some USB ports, they may need a header for that too.

@Minibois Do you know if the MSI A55M-E33 has the internal port ? Just purchased so don't know if it has it. Cant see it on the pic anywhere. Also, why would I need to use the blue connector when there is the other USB one ?

This motherboard has two USB 2.0 internal headers, no USB 3.0 headers.

That means with this front panel card reader thing, you wont be able to use the USB 3.0 (blue) ports.

Also.. I assume you know the performance limits of the chips that can go into that motherboard?

USB 3.0 is faster than USB 2.0. You will want to use it for faster devices, e.g. a flash drive or external SSD.

The blue internal cable is for the USB 3.0 ports at the front, which these ports will work with faster USB 3.0 devices, but also slower/older USB 2.0 devices.

@Minibois What do you mean by this ? I am going to put an A4-7300 in it. PCpartspicker said it was compatible and I found an offer for £20 (CPU) and mobo was only £15

I basically just meant you have to keep in mind this CPU is only for the simplest of applications basically. But for 35 GBP (including motherboard) it's decent.

@Minibois Should be at least 4 times faster then my Pentium 4. Hopefully...

That sounds about right.

Neither CPU is really that powerful, but the A4 will be fairly better than the P4.
