Nintendo is dominating the market through the entire race and was not included in the visualization below, even though I wish it would be added.
As the author said all the details aren't 100% accurate and it may vary a bit, but it still interesting to watch the charts.

The script to scrape the data is available at https://github.com/GregorUT/vgchartzScrape. It is based on BeautifulSoup using Python. There are 16,598 records. 2 records were dropped due to incomplete information.
