IMPERIUS got a reaction from AnalogCanavity in Experiences with non-techies
My friend is ready to spend 600€ on upgrades, I made him a nice i5, h81, 970, 8gb ram, 200r system but he is leaning towards an used i7 system, didn't remember which one, which gen, which GPU, nothing because its an i7 he can't wait a week for the parts to arrive

IMPERIUS got a reaction from paddy-stone in Buy RAM and SSD now or in 6 months?
Ehhh I doubt the price will keep on climbing, maybe it's just a thing now but half a year...we can't predict but I do believe that it is in the industry's best intention to get the DRAM supplies back up. And maybe there will be something new and important coming out in the next 6 months.
tldr: we cant know

the thing with a 200$ 1080 is bullshit.
things that I don't like nvidia for is shit drivers, closed source programs, decreasing performance of older gpus with newer drivers.

IMPERIUS got a reaction from IAEInferno in A new Kaby Lake i3 will apparently be overclockable!
looks kinda cool, but I'd still recommend a locked i5 over this, 4 cores can't be replaced by 2 fast ones

IMPERIUS reacted to zMeul in Why Linus is wrong (another macbook topic)
USB type C is not mainstream at all
hell, they didn't even finished adding features to the fucking standard
oh, and one more thing - the moment USB type C cables stop murdering the devices they got plugged in, that's when USB type C has a chance to go mainstream
guess what?! Apple does not provide docks or adapters to type A ports (shipped with the product), so your excuse of no more 10 different type of cables just went to the way of the do-do
you want to plug your iPhone into your MacBook PRO, buy an adapter or cable
you want to plug your printer, buy an adapter or cable
want to plug a 2nd display or TV, wait for it ... you need another cable
want to plug your LAN cable? nop! you need an adapter
and the list goes on and on
how well did it go when they 1st introduced the type C to MacBooks? that well, eh ...
the fucking things cost ~3000$ would've hurt them to add a DP or at least a HDMI, or a type A? nope
but they kept the 3.5mm jack - that should tell you something
---
my pos HP Pavilion from 2013 has HDMI, USB2, USB3 and LAN ports, SD card reader and audio jack

IMPERIUS reacted to Inferius in Can someone explain the difference between these fields of tech?
A real world example could be designing a tailored system for a business' needs. For example say a car company needs a specialized computer as part of their new car system. It's up to the systems engineers to design and develop a system to suit this company's needs.

IMPERIUS reacted to Inferius in Can someone explain the difference between these fields of tech?
So your freshman year, expect an intro to computer programming course, and an intro to engineering course. Basically these serve to introduce you to building things, as well as the basics of programming. As a systems engineer, you don't need a lot of programming knowledge, certainly not as much as a software engineer.
Anyway, the formal definition of what we do is "Combine knowledge of hardware, software, circuits, and math to evaluate or develop and design computing systems". Another big aspect of the field is how this computing system fits and works in the professional field.
Jobs look like designers of new systems, some can have a decent time into network security, database construction or management, just to name a few. It's a very broad field compared to the others.

IMPERIUS got a reaction from BingoFishy in When is Linus ever wrong?
that and the "heating a pizza with your pc" are imo the two worst ltt vids ever.
I'd also like to point out his build suggestions, the guy goes nuts over HDD and SSD space, especially in a budget build. blows waaay too much money on store and then skimps on the case or gpu...
-
IMPERIUS got a reaction from daniielrp in Body Builders
I'd say a body-builder is someone who wants to compete in body-building, meaning having a body fat % as low as possible. casually working out therefore isn't considered bodybuilding in my eyes if you're just trying to lose some weight or get more buff
