man its my own stuff, if I want my password to be “password” and never change it for a decade I will
now every month when I log into yahoo to check a backup email it wants me to change my password due to inactivity, reconfirm my phone number and Authenticator, I’m surprised I’m not sending in biometric logins over web browsers already

didn't watch yet as i got a bit fed up with "fact boi" videos… he's a great host with interesting subjects, although often terribly researched, which probably happens if someone has a gazillion yt channels, content quality will take a backseat.

i just hope it has at least the size and functionality of spacelab… imo that is needed for long term human  space habitats (at least some sort of artificial gravity)

I just hope they'll develop a de-orbit module with either a modified Soyuz module that has extra fuel for a long, hard burn. Or a one-off module with a big solid-propellant rocket motor, like some kick stages.
That way they can properly take it out of orbit and really dump it into the ocean, with no risk of a prolonged, uncontrolled re-entry that spreads parts over South America or even farther afield...

bigmug reacted to zogthegreat in "OK Boomer" - Why do we say no discrimination is allowed, but ageism is OK?
    Hi everyone!

So I was watching an LTT video a couple of days ago and Linus was making a commit on how older people use an email client instead of a web browser. He very pointedly stated "OK Boomer" as an insult to older people for not using a webpage interface.

If I post up a discriminatory comment about someone's sexual identity, religious preference, or genetic heritage, I will be slammed and possibly banned from the forum, yet it seems that discrimination against the elderly is perfectly acceptable. Why is that? I have 4 email account and yet, going by Linus's comment, I'm an old, slow, useless and basically a caveman for using Thunderbird instead of having 4 webpages open to deal with my emails.

I'm not a "boomer", (apparently I'm "Gen X"), but I see this discrimination with alarm as I age. Not sure if Linus and others who shout out "OK Boomer" all the time are aware of this, but sooner or later, they will grow old and face the same discrimination against the elderly that they are propagating now. Yes, it's cute to say "OK Boomer" and it get's some likes from 18 year old kid living in his/her mothers basement, but it also sets up the most vulnerable in our society for discrimination and harassment. What does Linus and others like him who push this mindset plan to do when they hit their 50's? I'm sure that in 20 years, there will be something to replace the webpage interface for email or some other tech that changes the way we do things again. Will these people be content to listen to people saying "OK Millennials", or will they get upset and complain about the discrimination that they themselves started?

Everyone in the "OK Boomer" crowd need to start thinking about their future. Yes, you will get old, it's part of being alive. And yes, you will face discrimination, that's also part of being alive. I'm an anglophone living in Quebec, I have to deal with language discrimination every day. Which makes me more sensitive to other forms of discrimination that I see around me.

I think that it is time for the "OK Boomer" crowd to grow up and realize that the seeds that they are planting today will bear fruit in their own future and not in a way that they will like. Discrimination in any form is wrong and if we truly want a more egalitarian society, than we need to stop finding reasons to discriminate against others. Even if they are old and don't understand all of the technology changes around them.

How about we start trying to remember how many time in our own personal youths someone who was older taught us how to tie our shoes, cross a street and in general survive our childhoods. We didn't say "OK Boomer" to these people, we said "thank you" and we continued to grow. How about instead of saying "OK Boomer" to someone who is elderly and doesn't understand the technological changes around them, we try to remember the help, guidance and care that we received as children and "pay it forward" to the generations who came before and laid the groundwork for what we have today? Give them a hand instead of the insults. They did, after all, teach you how to tie your shoes.

bigmug got a reaction from james_bond in Do you still wear a wrist watch or do you do you use your phone to see the time ?
Apart from a running watch I use occasionally while running or walking (for exercise), I haven't used a watch in 21 years. It's been that long since I bought my first mobile phone.

I find that the skin under the back of the watch gets damaged if I wear a watch daily. I get reddish, tender patches that take many days to heal. And it only takes a day for a funky, fungal smell to develop. That happens to be a smell I'm extremely sensitive to and disgusted by. Not nice at all.

Also, I spend almost all of my time either at work or at home, and in both places I'm surrounded by computers with the time visible in the task bar, and wall clocks, and clocks on kitchen appliances. And there's a clock on the dashboard of my car as well - not that the alternative would've been using my mobile while driving!
I'm really struggling to come up with situations in my daily life where I would benefit from a watch. Getting the mobile out of the pocket takes a second or two. In cold weather, it would even be faster than digging into multiple layers of clothing to get to a watch!

No, I will never wear a watch daily again.
Exercise watches for a few hours at a time, every couple of days, that's fine though.

We will never get back to the golden age of the crazy and hilarious years when LTT worked out of the house in Langley. Small team, small space, not yet corporate and a lot more ad hoc/ad lib. That will never return. LTT is a big business now, and that changes the tone and feel of the videos and of the relationships. Also, people get older and that changes people. Not worse, not better, just different.

It's not really Youtube's fault. The fault lies with the governments that make stupid copyright laws. YT has such an insane inflow of videos every second that only automated content ID is viable. It will make mistakes, and those mistakes mean nothing to Youtube unless they affect a big channel. There are probably thousands of uploaded videos being flagged incorrectly every hour. Youtube would have to pay for staff for manual reviews out of their own pocket to deal with it. Not going to happen. They owe nothing to uploaders. Literally nothing at all.

The point probably was to circumvent parts of the NDA, and be able to talk about the new processor and its features, show off a motherboard, without technically breaking the NDA. Release the video half a day ahead of the actual embargo time, and you get more views and traffic than at the correct time, when you're competing with a dozen or so other channels. LTT will obviously post a proper review video then, but this ekes out a fair few views more.

The only sad part about how the "game" ended is that the format, and I dare say ANY similar format LTT decides to do, is now burned forever. Everyone coming on a show like that will know that the first game was rigged in the contestant's favor, so either they will have to have every show end the same way, killing suspense for contestant and audience alike, or they will have to explicitly state that the next one ISN'T rigged, which will instead leave the contestant with a bit of a bitter taste, and it will make LTT seem bad to many viewers.
So either way, it won't be good for anyone, really.

I wonder when LTT will stop recommending grounding to a PSU or similar objects? The only potential difference you need to eliminate is the one between yourself and your components. The rest of the world makes zero difference, and connecting yourself to a ground lead or a sink could actually kill you if you're unlucky! So please LTT and others, stop recommending these dangerous and ineffective "grounding" methods!

Connect yourself to the case using an ESD strap, or at the very least, touch the case with one hand often throughout most of the build.

ULTIMATE RGB PC Tech Support Challenge!

In all seriousness though, with the recent quarantine I started livestreaming for work and now know how crazy it is to get all the moving parts to work together, and I am definitely not trying to get 4 sources from different parts of the continent. I will say that this has been the biggest step in my career thus far and that you all have played a huge part in teaching me about tech and helping me find the confidence to do this for a living. I have found that I have learned a huge amount watching the WAN show, the build streams, and these other streams about how to prepare for and more importantly react to situations like this one (heaven knows I have had a few). That and I love this new competition more than I have any logical reason to. So keep up the good work and thanks for sticking to it and trying new things, no matter how many wrenches you have to clean out of the gears!

    Sweden.

Roughly equivalent to US$35/month for 20 GB/month, unlimited free calls and texts, free roaming within the EU/EEA area (same 20 GB limit). No speed limits - you always get the maximum the network can deliver to you at that time and location.

I could get an unlimited plan for around US$60, but I'm never even close to using 20 (usually 3-8), so no point. I've got fiber straight into my apartment, so I don't have much need for mobile data.

U is the shorthand for the quantity "voltage", which has the unit V (volt), just like R is the shorthand for the quantity "resistance", which has the unit Ω (ohm). It's practical to have different symbols for the quantity and the unit.
