The two you have picked look great for the price, and the release dates mean you are not going to have any unfixable linux issues.
Personally, I'd save another £100 and get a lenovo, excepting that the Asus, then the MSI.<< All this is based on previous experience with those manufacturers, the Asus specs also mention a spare ram slot, so upgrade available.

Thanks for the response, I will look into the mobo. Not really interested in Wifi - I was looking into upgrading my CPU or GPU in the near future when stuff came back in stock but looks like it might be delayed a bit nw xd

I could wait until further releases like am5 etc but I am not looking for anything SUPER POWERFUL like the latest amd cpus and very good and will be for years and also I believe it is to be ddr5 only meaning I will have to upgrade even more what means moreee money, but idk haven't kept up lately with the news

Just to clarify, your CPU and RAM work. If true, it's 99% your motherboard.
I don't advise the B450 DS3H as it's VRMs are lackluster, but the ASUS ROG Strix B550-F could be a good choice.

I have tried my CPU in a different system with my ram as well, I just double checked my ram without my 3700x and works fine as well, I agree that a socket dying is very unlikely but it can happen, the motherboard is known for being very hot underload what could be the possible cause to the socket dying but I am not sure, I don't run into this that often so I am bit in the dark.

Unfortunately, I think the socket died. You said your budget was around £200, I would recommend something like a Gigabyte B450 Ds3h v2 (what I use). Based on your pc specs, I'm assuming it will be good for you. It can run quad-channel DDR4, has one PCIe 16x, an 8x, and a 1x. It's compatible with a Ryzen 3700x as well, and is in the lower price range. It has served me well, but certainly double-check before purchasing it. Doesn't have built-in Wi-Fi or EZ Debug though, and probably not as good rear I/O. Not sure about the pricing in UK, but I got mine for around $65. Hope that helps, a dead CPU socket really sucks.

Also I could be wrong, I'm not an expert lol

Mr Penguin reacted to AMD A10-9600P in Laptop Recommendations?
Yep, agreed. To be fair, around the price point that OP is looking, AMD may be a slightly better option, but Intel still isn't a bad deal (unless you're looking for an 11th gen desktop CPU...). I was recently shopping around myself and settled on Intel, but around the £700 mark AMD makes a lot of sense

There's nothing wrong with Intel CPUs; I was just pointing out than the AMD side is still a perfectly reasonable option. Just gives the OP a wider choice, which can only be a positive thing if they want a good deal

I agree on the i5-1135G7, although AMD have higher physical core counts, the 11th gen i7 and i5 chips are still very very good. Low power consumption, high boost clocks, pretty decent core counts, you can't really go wrong

Some model of Ryzen 5 + a Radeon Vega 8 is pretty common in that price range as well and should also cope fine with modern games on light settings with reasonably similar performance.

For around 500-600£ you can pretty easily get a laptop equipped with an i5 1135G7 and 8-16gb of ram. It has a pretty low power consumption, and has Xe graphics meaning it's capable of running most modern games with the right settings. If you believe the specs of the i5 meet your needs, then it's probably worth getting a laptop equipped with such cpu.
Here's the specs of the i5.

You are most likely afflicted by the B550/X570 USB disconnect bug, as I can see you have an MSI MPG X570 Gaming Edge motherboard.
AMD has announced that they are releasing a fix, coming in April, via AGESA 1.2.0.1.
There is no other way to fix it right now I believe.

You said about building your own kernel but you never said anything about the official drivers. Try installing the linux-firmware package then reboot, it fixes a lot of driver issues.

Then good news. OverclockersUK has the Glorious GMMK in stock: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/glorious-pc-gaming-race-gmmk-compact-60-keyboard-barebones-iso-layout-kb-006-gr.html. You can buy this alongside switches from my previous comment
and keycaps also from OverclockersUK to make up a semi custom GMMK board.

For 60% board I have the keymove snowfox that is really a nice board too.  Quite sturdy even if it's all plastic, the lighting is really nice too.  I don't know how the software compares to the gmmk as I've never used any keyboard software except for synapse really briefly.

Thanks for your response - looks like a decent laptop and will definitely look into it more - browsing about doesn't seem like a lot of places sell them - got some digging ahead of me xd.
IPS is fine with me - most of my main monitors are IPS - should of stated above and will do a edit rn, but storage isn't a problem as I will be swapping them out for prob a bigger ssd along with a fresh install of windows to get rid of all the crap companies sometimes put in the laptop.

I would go with b450 becuase you shouldn't upgrade every single generation and in 2-3 generation the am4 socket is going to change so unless you're going to upgrade every year you're not going to need a beefed up vrm like on the x570 boards.
