My Riva TNT2 Vanta supports raytracing. Doesn't mean that it works well.

No, I'm saying that I don't give a flying fart if RTX runs through DXR. What I care is if game that says RTX all over the place can also use effects on non-NVIDIA cards using DXR itself. Battlefield V does, because they openly state DXR in settings and they openly talked about it being DXR as is. Where I'm not so sure for other games like Metro. I'm talking about feature exposure to the graphic cards. Coz if it's RTX graphic card only and nothing else, then it sucks donkey balls. And I wouldn't be surprised if it was specifically locked down to NVIDIA RTX series cards. Wouldn't be the first time nor the last... Because such locking down just makes adoption of tech even longer and more painful. But if new AMD cards that will allegedly have ray tracing and same for Intel's Xe cards, then I'm fine with it even if it says RTX in the settings. But I have doubts about that... Nothing sucks more than having a game and "wrong" graphic card because NVIDIA locked them down to their cards. That's the issue I'd have and that's the issue I'd have with ANY brand, not just NVIDIA. It's just that AMD prefers to make open standards from get go which anyone can adopt. So it's hard to complain over them you know... We'll see how Intel will operate in this regard. Will they push industry or lock down and stagnate by doing proprietary shit. We'll see...

Well Nvidia RTX is DXR with hardware accelerated paths in it which is supported as part of DXR. What you're complaining about is Nvidia being the only vendor ready with something that does RTX and the only vendor willing to support it in games currently.

It's fascinating how much pushback Nvidia got from certain corners of the internet on the whole raytracing thing, compared to how widespread (Intel, AMD, Sony, Microsoft) adoption of raytracing has become among upcoming hardware releases.

No one is bashing anything. But some people keep on insisting I'm NVIDIA hater. WHile having NVIDIA graphic card. And being against proprietary tech makes you a hater. Heh. All I said is I'm looking forward to having 3rd player in GPU market and also looking forward to wider DXR support which means ray tracing might be closer to a mainstream thing now.

really wish people knew how to stay on topic.

Looking forward to another player in the game. hoping they shake things up. personally still don't care about RT, but good to know it will be there should people want to use it

Because proprietary shit is good mkay? Coz PhysX worked out so well right? Or anything NVIDIA has churned out as proprietary junk. Right? Yeah, Ray tracing that only works on RTX is bad. Ray tracing that works on any DXR capable graphic card is good.

I'd give anything to be surrounded by my extended family again. I haven't lived anywhere near most of my family in over a decade now and I'd give anything back to be in California again, being able to travel to Whittier or Montebello or Chino Hills to visit my family.

Why linux to program with Python?

There's no real need, you can use windows or Mac or whatever he prefers.

To be honest i'd recommend him to start learning while using the OS he's most comfortable with, you don't wanna be fighting with a new OS while learning *anything* else.

If you wanna learn Linux, then you should start with an ubuntu-based distro, as those are the most beginner friendly. Ubuntu 18.04, Xubuntu, Linux Mint, ElementaryOS... There are a number of distros.

I've enjoyed Mint myself. Now im stuck with CentOS for work

FezBoy reacted to vanished in NVIDIA has created a gaming studio to remaster classic PC games with Ray Tracing effects
Cool idea. It will be interesting to see if these games are playable with their new look on older 10-series cards or even existing and upcoming AMD cards.  As much as they're obviously doing this to promote RTX, I would guess that in most cases you won't actually need the RTX hardware to be able to get playable frame rates (or at least, you shouldn't) since the games are geometrically so simple.  It's the same theory behind why ray tracing mods for Minecraft work on non-RTX cards.

If you don't want to get "screwed over" by newer versions of existing products being released, then just never buy anything ever.

    How's this for clean?

That's pretty much how both my laptops look. Thanks to the icon biased nature of Android, my tablets and old phone turned media player have some icons crapped around on my ubiquitous wallpaper. My old BrewOS slider phone even sports a suitably sized variation of this wallpaper, and the main screen has no icons. I despise icons/shortcuts/files crapped on the desktop. I also customize my Start Menu/main menu on devices to streamline them.
