Never opened original 8800 ultra sc I just bought from a lady who’s dad was a wolfenstine  player also got a gts 8800 from her both in the box $20 each how the mighty GPUs have fallen. was the "titan" of its day price and performance

yeah, the test is flawed as they are using a 64 tick server, as they were using a valve practice server w/ bots but kicked the bots out. also, they didn't need the slow mo camera, he could've hosted a custom server (not hard esp. when you have like 20 ppl working for you), with a 1000/1024 tickrate then viewed the game at 1/1000 speed...

depends on the application I run the stock cooler on my ryzen 1600 and have a 3.9 overclock on it and its fine don't think you need a aftermarket cooler unless you really want to push the cpu or your case has low air flow

Running my 1080ti on its stock Bios, so heavily power limited, im getting the following OC, balancing temperature (38-42c load), Power limit, and voltage.

Gigabyte 1080ti Gaming OC (the white one) Water cooled - Barrow Block
Core 2088mhz (+152 on voltage curve)
    VRAM 6237mhz effective (+724)
    1.05v (1.062 stock)

I find this does power limit a little in Superposition and Heaven, and more so in Valley (4k, not 1080p). To stop power limiting in valley completely i would need to drop to 0.981v and a core of 2012mhz.

Obviously its possible to go higher on max core, but increasing the voltage over 1.05v causes massive power limiting.

I may in the future try the XOC bios if it works with my particular card, since that 'apparently' has power limiting completely disabled, but can result in cards pulling way to much power if u set the voltage to high. Since my card does not have dual bios im less inclined to flash the bios , less i brick it.

Ill likely do what i did the my 780 Classi, run it for a few years then go ham on it. I flashed the bios on my classi, used the Overvoltage tool and pushed 1.5v into it getting up over 1400mhz core.

i say go for it if you can get it super cheap($20) and OC it to 4ghz its almost as good as a stock ryzen 1600 so you get good cpu performance just going to be missing out on new options but not a bad stop gap cpu for now

More new old stock 2006 things I started a build in this case and stoped because i changed my mind on what I want to do with it and I’m thinking of building a retro build with the open gts 8800 I got with the ultra and a period correct motherboard like a pentium extreme or something. Not going to use the power supply for anything.

Wait for launch of Zen 2. If you cant wait, go last gen and grab an 8700k instead. But waiting for Zen 2 is the best choice right now. Launch is at 7th/7th launching their 7nm CPUs, (yes clever)

Also grab 3000mhz memmory, its where the sweetspot is at.

that would do, i'd replace your current psu with the new card, it's a risk to use with the vega.

My last slightly cheap antec psu (850w) broke down after 6 years on one of the older builds, and it started randomly shutting down, the overheating was horrifying, the troubleshooting of everything else was a waste of time,  wattage isn't everything, get a better psu.
