HazyJ28 reacted to mariushm in 7zip vs windows built in
Internal zip opens just ZIP files.... I'm not even sure it opens all non-standard zip files.

WinZIP implemented several compression methods in ZIP files that are not using the standard DEFLATE algorithm. 7zip supports those and also allows you to create such zip archives... simply choose from the compression method BZip2 or LZMA or PPMd
Yeah, just checked... the built in zip thing in Windows 7 opens the archive and shows the files in it, but can't extract a file compressed using the non-default algorithm PPMd (which is very very good at compressing text files or files with lots of words like html pages), the extraction fails with an error.

It's like the same story with RAR archives ... WinRar lets you choose between using the older RAR algorithms (until version 5) and newer algorithms which are not compatible with older rar decompressors.

The 7zip format of 7zip is much better than ZIP and even RAR in some cases, and you can use very big dictionaries and can use a lot of threads (for example with 16 threads and 1.5 GB dictionary, 7zip could use up to 145 GB of RAM to compress something, if you want absolutely the maximum compression on huge amount of data, like GBs of content) but that's ridiculous extremes...  WinRAR defaults to maximum 4 MB dictionary I think, I'm not sure.
With 64 MB dictionary and 16 threads will use up to 5 GB of ram to compress your archives, but 4-8 compression threads and up to 8 MB dictionary is  more common, so memory usage will be less (up to ~1 GB of memory)

edit: attached is a zip file compressed with PPMd algorithm... see if your Windows can decompress it.  Both 7zip and Total Commander can do it. Contents is just a txt file with the text of this post.

This article says support was added in NVIDIA’s latest GPU driver (451.48). Neither the article, nor Nvidia's announcement makes any mention of specific GPUs, so I'd assume it works on any GPU supported by that driver version.

This isn't an issue, everything should downmix to Mono, programs not downmixing to Mono is a program issue, not an issue for you.
If you really want to you could use Voicemeeter to downmix the mic to Mono and use a Virtual Audio Cable to send it to the other programs.
But this isn't an interface issue, it's a program issue.

Hi I Hope This Can Help And That U can Find An answer if mine doesnt help i have the same issue with only getting one channel to bring audio from my microphone to my pc i use a mackie onyx artist 1-2 as my main audio interface but i only get one side of the stereo what i did and my solution if u dont have any drivers of ur interface installed i suggest u research for drivers and thats what i did i found a driver for my audio interface and installed it mine has a control panel that appears on the taskbar and i changed my settings from stereo to mono if u cant find any drivers i see u use voicemeeter that would be an option to use but if u need dedicated output to be stereo for like in my case zoom/discord/teams/ obs and my desktop i suggest getting the voicemeeter potato version because it has dedicated virtual outs and have them set up with every program that i use so i just have to launch voicemeeter and the voice program that im gonna be using

MaCrium Reflect's image files are a proprietary kind of .iso file. Imaging works great for backing up System files (OS and programs) but is too inefficient for backing up data files.

What I recommend is segregating System files from data files, then using imaging for the System and a folder/file syncing program for just the data. The obvious way is to have the System on a separate boot drive and the data on its own drive(s). If all your machine has us one drive and you do not want to (or cannot) add another one, you can have separate partitions for the system and the data (that's what I do with my one drive wonders notebooks).

I recommend Macrium Reflect Free for imaging (imaging is basically a snapshot of whatever is being imaged; think photo image). I do not recommend the paid version anymore because 1. the free version is adequate for most people and 2. the company that make Macrium Reflect (Paraount Software) uses a company I do not trust called Cleverbridge (or "Not so Clever Bridge", as I call them) which I've had trouble with because of their incompetent web design and cavalier attitude towards it).  To be effective as a backup, images need to be stored off the computer, preferably on an external drive. More on this in a moment

For backing up data, I recommend FreeFileSync (FFS). When set to Mirror Mode (not the same as RAID 1), it will essentially create a clone of the drive or partition being backed up. After the initial backup, updates go very quickly because only files that have been added, changed, and deleted will be dealt with.

A feature of many folder/file syncing (including FFS) is called Versioning. When enabled (which I strongly recommend), it will take files deleted duringa backup update and send them to a user designated Versioning folder of drive. This helps to prevent losing files due to accidental deletions or corruption, including files infected with a virus or other malware.

I mentioned earlier about keeping images on an external drive. Normally, this is because, if the image is sored in the computer and the drive it's on gets lost, the image will also be lost. To reduce the number of drives and to simplify the recovery process, if one is using folder/file syncing, one can save images to a folder on the data drive or partition in the computer. This folder will then be backed up to external backup drive with the rest of the data when updating the backup drive.

I'm not sure if it's ISO as I haven't used it in a bit. But Macrium Reflect Free worked wonders for me for taking images.

Thanks for the response, but I have already spent about 2 hours googling and reading on forums. It seems that everyone disagrees about the trustworthiness and effectiveness of these programs, that's why I came here- to see if there was any universally standard and agreed-upon piece of code.

I'm not one of those people who go bothering people on forums without doing my own research first.

    Regardless, cheers and thank you.

you cant limit frame time, you can just make it more consistent by limiting your fps to a lower value.
    60hz is 16ms, 30hz is 33ms iirc.

Came across this today, searching for a solution with my GTX 1050 Ti (Nvidia Optimus setup, i.e. graphics getting piped through the IGP).

I really hope, you're not right about fastsync replacing Adaptive vsync; Adaptive VSync has the advantage of reducing power consuption, which helps with cooling; "Fast-Sync", as described here, wouldn't provide that advantage.

*edit (2018-12-24)* Never mind... The latter part can be achieved independently by limiting the frame rate with tools like "NVidia Profile Inspector". Though I fear, it may saboage anti-tearing technologies, so adaptive vsync would still be the preferable solution.

So, I hadn't seen this yet (Building the DIY Tablet PC - Kano Computer Kit Touch Showcase). It must have slipped by me, so I just watched it. I'm always sad around the Holidays, but I started bawling my eyes out at the thought of how good of a father Linus is. It really put me in the Christmas spirit. So I guess I'm just taking this time to show my respect for Linus and what he does for his family.
I started coding at age 8 and my dad resented me for it. He always called me a computer nerd. He told me computers were toys and was disappointed I wasn't a mechanic like him. Jokes on you, Pops...
