If you have a backup on an external drive you can install from that.

As for the update, you can do this to give yourself control over when you install windows updates.

Press the Windows logo key + R then type gpedit.msc and click OK.
Go to "Computer Configuration" > "Administrative Templates" > "Windows Components" > "Windows Update".
    Double-click "Configure Automatic Updates".
Select "Disabled" in Configured Automatic Updates on the left, and click Apply and "OK" to disable the Windows automatic update feature.

I'm in the same boat as you. I lost a few backplate screws and eventually vacuumed them up and unknowingly threw them away. NVIDIA support is awful. I bought the wrong size nvlink bridge and they wouldn't let me return it. Older edition founders (GTX 10-) use black screws that are almost certainly different. I have tried finding damaged liquidation cards, but have had no luck with founders edition cards. Probably because you can only buy the cards directly from NVIDIA or a Third Party Reseller.

If I find a way to source the screws, ill post it here.

Try out the fuji xt3, it doesn't have ibis, but its a pretty well rounded little camera and lenses are much cheaper than in the Sony system.

You could also look at a used 5d4, I've seen way too many go for much cheaper than the sonys and thats not including savings in glass, which is even coming down, although, the crop is an issue. Another option is a used eos r, they tend to sell at significant discount and coupled with an adapter and cheap ef-s glass, you'd ened up paying less than for a sony and overcome the crop issue.

The panasonics are also great, but significantly lack continuous AF capability.

Panasonic G7 is what I use.  I film 4k/24 but it does 4k/30 (I hate how 30fps looks personally).  Auto-Focus is meh, but it works. I find myself manual focusing more and more as time goes on.  DSLR Video Shooter (Caleb Pike) has an affordable guide for the camera that really helped me get the basics of the specific camera down and figure out my own style after that.  For $500 I don't think you can beat it if you want 4k video.

Lens are where you will really make some image quality improvement and where $$ starts to rack up.  A couple good lenses will cost you way more than the camera itself but make big improvements to image quality, in my experience anyway.  I still cannot afford to have all the lenses I want but the 25mm F1.7 from Panasonic was the best investment I've made.  A Photographer friend actually thought I bought a new camera entirely when I started using the 25mm for my B-Roll and Interview style shots.  That lens is only $200 but every other lens I want is $800+.  I rented them for SEMA 2018 and they were well worth it, I just can't justify them quite yet for purchase.

I can really only second the GH4  and GH5 recommendations. That said, the A7 III is actually incredibly affordable when you look at its feature set.

So like @AqHu mentioned, the Panasonic range of mirrorless cameras are something you should seriously consider since those cameras offer robust video quality for a reasonable price.
For now I would stay away from Canon cameras, especially the m50 in terms of video performance. That is because as much as the 4k function is advertised, the actual performance of it's supporting features are quite limited. One such example is the crop meaning that you would have to get quite a wide lens or have the camera placed a significant distance away from you to get a reasonable frame. Not to mention the fact that DPAF (Canon's famous in sensor focusing system) is disabled for the 4k shooting resolution. (No bias as I am a canon semi-pro shooter)
A camera to consider would be the GH4 which I believe is on offer currently at BH photo
    https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1028453-REG/panasonic_dmc_gh4kbody_lumix_dmc_gh4_mirrorless_micro.html
Considering your former choice was a Nikon B700 I'm assuming that the focus is on video and less so photography.

Though if you wish to be able to do more serious photography sony's range of APSC mirrorless cameras from the a6300 to the a6500 are reasonably priced and offer 4k as well as plenty of photography features.
And yes all the cameras mentioned above all have external mic line inputs and some have clean HDMI output for external recorders down the line.
Though if you are looking to grind and narrow fully into videos and have a slightly larger budget, the BMPCC 4k is worth considering.

If you're looking to do only video work with your camera, maybe look at a Panasonic... The Canon M50 is also an option, but there is a significant crop in 4K.

Not sure if you figured out the best way to drop the high temps, but what worked best for me was dropping the frequency to 3.5 GHz on the first four core and 3.4 on the final two.

I first disabled over clocking from Alienware Command Center and then installed Intel Extreme Tuning Utility. With this, 2.9 GHz on all 6 cores dropped the temperatures very low even while gaming. This however did slow down a few things. So I tried out a few different combinations and 3.5 GHz on 4 cores and 3.4 on the two final worked best. Unfortunately Intel Extreme Tuning Utility didn't hold the new settings after a reboot, so I went back into BIOS only to find that Performance options was somehow now available. I was sure it was locked earlier, but maybe the new the Extreme Tuning Utility opened up something. I also noticed that on the Command Center, there's only two over clock levels. On performance options, there are three. The third being OC LV 3, which is 5 GHz on the first four cores and 4.9 GHz on the two final. I did not try this option, but did have some fun trying to keep the processor alive at 5.2 GHz on laptop air cooling... not so much fun.

So the steps I followed was:
    1. Disable over clocking from Command Center.
    2. Install Intel Extreme Tuning Utility and try out some frequencies that work. Again, the one that worked best for me while running Battlefield 4 and just YouTube at the same time was 3.5 on four cores and 3.4 on the two remaining. This configuration kept the performance very good without going past 90 degrees Celsius other than the time I ran the Intel Stress Test.
    3. Go into BIOS -> [Advanced] -> Enabled [Performance Mode] -> Customization [Over Clocking Level] -> Set each value to the numbers mentioned above (35, 35, 35, 35, 34, 34).

I spent the past two weeks trying to figure this out and then the entire day today perfecting it. It might not be best for your usage, but I hope it helps.

So let me get this straight. You bought a literal bottom of the barrel card. You used said card and toasted it because you tried to run it through a workload that it clearly couldn't handle. So now it is somehow Asus' responsibility to give you a higher end card because you were too cheap to buy one in the first place? Flawed logic much?

You post like this is a break up. The 1500x isn't even that old, dude. You also don't have the cash together to do a platform upgrade yet. It's not my cash, but this is just tossing it in the garbage to upgrade 1 generation in.

As others have said in the thread, waiting for the successor to Zen is a good idea as it most likely will still remain on Socket AM4. Honestly, what is so bad about your 1500X? Just grab a nice cooler and OC it between 3.8-4Ghz.

Dude you get it less than 6 months ago... stick with it and get Zen + or Zen 2 if you really don't like your 1500x... Honestly if your immediate thought isn't to get the 8700k, then you probably shouldn't be spending $200+ on a z370 motherboard to change platforms...

Okay with that out of the way, if you're gonna switch then just get the 8700k. The 8600k will probably won't be that much faster than the 1500x. Like it'll definitely be faster, but probably not worth the $500 platform cost. If you're upgrading from the 1500x, spend the $600 for the platform to get a significant improvement.

Ethan_NLHW reacted to Emberstone in Ryzen 1500x to i7 8600k.
I'm sure the 8600K will handily beat the 1500X, but it likely won't be enough to justify a complete platform switch, especially considering you'll need to fork out a premium for a Z370 board and a good cooler to overclock it.

The Zen revision on 12nm is probably a smarter choice. Save that cash you were planning on using to switch platforms and go for a refreshed 8-core or something.

Ethan_NLHW reacted to wyattzx in What is the point of consoles other than the Switch now?
You're going to start a flame war with a post like this, and I don't see the mods letting it slide.

That being said, and without trying to backseat mod, let me say this: I do not need to read your novel to know that your point goes off on a tangent due to misconstrued perceptions caused by your total support of the PC ecosystem.

Consoles will dominate PC in terms of players for a great many more years -- if not forever -- and will not leave the household, if not at least without a massive fight. The convenience of buying a cardboard box from a store, taking it home and plugging in two cables (power and HDMI) and being off to the races will never be matched by a computer. You need to update your drivers, install software for your games, manage a handful of programs if you wish to play alongside friends, and separate the personal computing aspect from the gaming aspect of a gaming PC. That's something we'll never see happen.

Even if physical media goes away, just look at mobile gaming. Two taps will take you from the store to the main menu of a game. On a PC, you need to download it, install it, run it and possibly (probably) configure it. Consoles aren't far off from mobile gaming; you simply download it and or its updates and hit a single button to drop at the main menu. Yes, once the games are installed on each platform, subsequent experiences should be near-identical, but this first impression is very important.

Furthermore, you do not need to worry about your hardware being capable of playing a desired title, as on console it will always work if released for that platform. Perhaps your GPU isn't fast enough? Perhaps your CPU is only dual core and won't run the game? Maybe your drivers are causing issues with a certain title?

To enthusiasts, PC is the way to go. To your average consumer, you cannot beat consoles.
