I currently am running an I5 2310. I'm looking to upgrade to a better cpu. My motherboard is the stock board from a dell xps 8300, it's a dell 0Y2MRG. It has a listed support for up to an i7 2600. The thing is at above 120 on average they are a bit out of my price range. I'm looking at a xeon e3 1240, they can be usually had at below 70 on ebay. My current setup is the aforementioned I5, 14gb ddr3, Gtx 980. I'm hitting a bottle neck in destiny 2. My cpu maxes a 100 percent and my gpu maxes out around 70 percent max. Long winded as it may be does anyone know if the e3 1240 will work in my motherboard? Its the same lga as my current board. And from what i understand from research its basically a 2600 in a xeon package. Any advice? And as for game play on destiny 2, i don't have any stutters or whatnot. I'm pretty much running everything on high. But i was looking to upgrade cpu in a possible move to a 1440p monitor. Currently using 1080.

It should work, I would think a bottleneck would be caused by CPU architecture itself, not what CPU it is on that platform....
