Not sure. Will that LNA will only apply to the 1700rpm fan or all of them, if they’re daisy-chained?

Also, if the first fan off the motherboard is the 1200 or 1300rpm fan, then the software will only see that fan & possibly essentially work as a LNA in that it will treat all fans max rpm as 1200rpm.

I’m not 100% sure on the above. Might be worth testing without the LNA & see how they react to your fan curve.

Hopefully others can confirm the above.

If the LNA has a molex plug on the end then it should work, but IIRC they only work when plugged into a motherboard header.

Does that motherboard have 1 x CPU & 1 x Chassis fan header? If so, maybe you could daisy-chain your three case fans & run them off your Chassis fan header & then use ASUS Fan Xpert to control their RPM. You'd need to make sure your Chassis fan header's able to take the power of three fans though.

If there's no way to connect the front fans to the motherboard (what model do you have?), then i'd put the two lower RPM fans at the front & the fastest one at the rear. That way the fronts (which will be running at max RPM all the time) will be quieter, & the rear (which you'll be able to control the RPM via BIOS/mobo software) will be running at much lower than its maximum of 1700RPM.

It is. I was more suggesting to avoid the CV if possible. And if a new PSU is needed in the future, hopefully 4.5 stars and up isn't the only criteria.

Don't buy based on Amazon "reviews", they're not exactly insightful.

Have a look at the PSU tier list here on the forum, it's a good starting point to compare power supplies.

This is the main reason I was thinking against a gaming laptop for University. I will do this if I end up upgrading my PC instead but for now the Lenovo Legion 5 2021 looks like a good buy (It has a Hybrid power mode, which extends battery life and gives around 7 hours!)

Thanks for the Info! After looking at some videos, I think Lenovo appear to have good thermals/thermal settings!

    That's the plan 😄

    I'm looking at the Lenovo Legion 5 2021 Ryzen 7 5800H RTX 3070 165Hz

That sounds great! The laptop 3070 appears to in between the desktop 3060 and desktop 3070, which is impressive! Thanks for the info!

I'll be sure to double check how reliable and well the laptop I'm looking at will perform. As you've said, there appears to be many laptops that are not very reliable/not build well

I think you'd be happy with most 3070 laptops (Aslong as its 120+TGP) as the 3070 laptop is equivalent to a desktop 3060GPU, but like others have said check battery life as your wanting it for university and, from the sounds of the specs you've posted it sounds like a Legion 5 2021 there apparently really good laptops.

Look into the asus g15 or Lenovo legion 5 lineup and maybe aim for the 5800 + 3060 config as those have 4+hours of battery life.

If there are no power limits, yes they will throttle. But that's not the case with most gaming laptops.

Even in Aida64 FPU+Furmark test they will keep power limits in place and not thermal throttle. Different models have different power limits, that's why some are better than others.

The worst thing about laptops is cooling.
So much performance packed into a little enclosure.

Usually high end parts packed in a laptop, you'll end up with thermal throttling performance loss.

    Just something to think about.

Just saying: look at reviews first. Laptops are hit or miss in terms of heat management/throttling/fan noise.

If this is just a stepping stone, I'd keep the mobo. It'll be good enough, and no need to spend even more on something temporary.

That said, while the 3600 is a big upgrade overall, the actual performance difference in gaming isn't going to be that big. If you're finding yourself CPU bottlenecked currently, it might be worth it, but otherwise, that's $200+ you could just put towards your eventual full upgrade.

That's just the nut that the M.2 drive rests on, you'll need the screw from your motherboard box (or any CM2x3-3.3 screw).

That is not a screw. That is where you screw the screw in. You will need a compatible screw if your motherboard didn't came with one.

afaq0 reacted to Applefreak in Will this AIO fit with mobo and case?
The AIO is 52 mm thick. You need at least that in clearance to mount the radiator. Of course you can get aftermarket 15 mm fans, then you will only need 42 mm of clearance. However this will set you back another 30.- or 40.- plus shipping.
Now this only applies if you were to mount the AIO's radiator up top. If you were to mount it up front, you have ample clearance and no issue what so ever.

Get the specs of the AIO (height, width, depth) and then measure the clearance of your case and motherboard.

Measuring, still useful even in 2020
