Can't boot from USB Windows Install (GPT)

afaq0

Hi, I got my new M.2 NVME SSD and I wanted to install windows to it. The issue is that, whenever I try to boot from the USB Install, the windows logo pops up and then the computer restarts shortly after.

I've tried changing various settings in the UEFI BIOS and nothing seems to fix the issue.

Booting from a USB with MBR does work but I wanted to install using GPT for better boot times and performance.

(My current SSD is using GPT) (I am using Rufus)

Any help would be appreciated!

Is there any reason you're using Rufus instead of the official Windows Media Creation Tool? I've not had success booting a WIndows 10 installer with Rufus, but the official tool works fine.

The official Windows Media Creation Tool creates the bootable USB as MBR. I will need to convert my new SSD from GPT to MBR to use that USB then. I wanted to use GPT for the better boot times but if there is not much choice left, then I may go with MBR.

The media creation tool should be setup for GPT. When booting from your flash drive, are you selecting the UEFI option? If that doesn't work try disabling Secure Boot in your BIOS.

Even when using the media creation tool, the UEFI boot did not work (same issue where the computer restarts after windows logo appears for a bit).

When booting with the other USB option (MBR), the windows installation appears but once I go to select the drive, it says that "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk is of the GPT partition style".

My current SSD uses GPT and that is what I was hoping to use but I think this means that I may need to use the MBR partition style on my new SSD (I'll do it through the Windows partitions tool)

Update: I cloned my original SSD to my new one (using Macrium Reflect) so I now have Windows installed on my new SSD in the GPT partition style!

Thank you for your help @BigDamn
