COUPER MILLAR got a reaction from DocSwag in [Resolved] New Build Parts
For some recording/Streaming/editing, threadripper is way overkill and will actually perform worse in gaming, which im assuming is your normal use. Also SLI is garbage, I have 1080 SLI and 9 times out of 10 its unusable and the other time it only kind of works. The lack of an SSD is unacceptable for this level of a system, NVME or SSD would be fine.

I agree with the others mostly in that you may well be better off waiting a few weeks for the new B450 boards. As to RAM, buy something like Ballistix Sport LT 2666 and overclock it to 3000 Mhz (which it does easily), you'll save a decent amount over buying 3000 Mhz RAM and it works well in just about any present AM4 board you can get.

If you can wait 4-6 weeks to pull the trigger ryzen+ should be released. at that point you can jump to the new chip or maybe get the old one at a bit of a discount from current prices.

as for motherboards, ive had two buddies get the ASRock X370 killer SLI and both have been pleased with it.

COUPER MILLAR got a reaction from Yazoofiend in GPU cost decrease.
Gamersnexus has actually released some good content on this. Although some of the supply chain issues are coming from crypto mining, the larger factor is the global ram shortages. Everything I have heard is that prices will continue to stay high until the ram shortages are resolved. your best bet is to get on a mailing notification for a GPU in your price range from nvidia or EVGA's websites. From my experience higher end nvidia cards have a higher chance of coming available for their MSRP ( 1080 1080 Ti's). Both Nvidia and AMD have also said we should expect increases in MSRP due to increased BOM costs (~$25 more per memory module) form the ram shortages.

How much later in the year... 6 weeks, 6 months. there are several perspective product releases that could have a huge impact on the answer.

COUPER MILLAR got a reaction from GoldenLag in CPU/GPU Pairing
The 8th gen Intel CPU's require the 300 series chip set. Currently the 370Z are the only motherboards that are available and they are more expensive. The lower end/more affordable options should be coming out in the next couple months. I would recommend waiting until both they and the Ryzen 2000 series CPU's come out in the next 4-6 weeks before you pull the trigger if you can.

Yeah it's likely just air leaking out since it's only 2 weeks, but fill it up and watch it, if it happens again it might be a slow leak.

COUPER MILLAR reacted to W-L in Where can I buy DIY Sata male power plugs?
That's how they are suppose to come, you solder the wires to the connections and in industry injection mold around them to form a solid piece, but most heatshrink the ends if your making completely custom cables.

There are male crimp style connectors such as these also but not something that is very common.

If you can find an i7 8700k get that. If not honestly an i7 7700k would be the next best option. The x299 platform doesn't really give any benefit for gaming and costs a lot more than the main stream platform. the i7 7740x shouldn't even exist.

regarding ram. 16gb should be fine for the time being. I would hold off on more than that in hopes that the DDR4 shortage gets resolved sometime in 2018 and prices return to a more reasonable level.

current gpus don't necessarily need all 16 lanes to run at full performance. also i believe that the chipset on the main stream motherboards also gets 4 pcie lains.

Chances are if the Titan V isn't marketed for gaming it's not gonna support G-Sync.

The Titan Xp is more of a Quadro than a gaming card(it actually shows up under the Quadro section on Nvidia's website).

The 1080Ti is the current best card on the market for gaming, I'm not sure why you'd need 2 of them though

COUPER MILLAR got a reaction from asus killer in Why do some PC games look smooth on 30 while others are barely playable?
Id say a lot of this comes down to 1% and 0.1% lows. if you're averaging 30 fps and have 1% lows in the mid 20's it will feel a lot smoother than averaging 30 fps with 1% lows <10 fps.

COUPER MILLAR reacted to 79wjd in Plex Media Server - What should I get
The B1 should be fine since the system should draw very little power. Of course, it's not the best PSU in the world, so you could replace it if you wanted to, but I wouldn't worry about it.

if you are on a limited budget you can get better performance per dollar on air coolers in the under $50 category. Something like a cryorig h7. It would also be something that you could use when you do eventually get a chance to upgrade.
