Asus GTX 1070 high temperatures

Electronical_Knight

Hello there, i have a problem with my Asus Strix GTX 1070 OC. In the most reviews of this card the Temperatures max out at around 65°C, but mine goes up to 82°C while gaming. I have good airflow in my Case and even when the sidepanel is open it drops only 1°C. I've changed the thermal paste, did a custom fan curve and undervolted the card that the Temperatures are better, but maybe some of you know how to fix this problem and why this videocard is getting so hot. (PS: I know that 82°C is still a save temperature, but it would be nice to see that my GTX 1070 is running under 70°C like the others)

That's weird considering that you already replaced thermal paste. I've had two 1070 Strixs, previous ran at 68°C and current at 65°C with side panel closed and both were overclocked and have quiet fan curves. Without side panel my current Strix won't go over 62°C. If you haven't removed the warranty sticker I would RMA it.

Also what is your ambient temperature?

My ambient room temperature is 24°C, the case is the Phanteks eclipse P400s and my gpu is normal mounted. I can't send it back because i had to remove the warranty sticker to change the thermal paste. In the picture you can see my PC. I don't think the front mounted radiator is a problem because the temperatures are still to high when the sidepanel is open.

and by the way, a good new year :)

Here are some Pictures of my temperature line when the graphic card is under load.

In the first picture you can see that the starting temperature was 34°C.

In the second picture it immediatly jumps to 55°C when it came under load. Then I tabbed out to change to the standard clocks (i've started with the undervolting curve),

and in the last picture you can see it was at 78°C. This happened in about 30 seconds.

the voltage of the card was beetween 1050mV and 1030mV with the standard curve and at 925mV with the undervolting curve.

What's your fan RPM under load? Idle temperature seems fine. I'm currently idling at around 26-31C with the same GPU.

You have cranked the total power draw to 120% and left the max temp slider locked to the power, which allows for a max temp of 92C. Your card is just running as far as you have said it can. If you unlock the temp and dial it back your card won't get as hot, but your clock speeds will drop.

That shouldn't change the fan curve. Mine wouldn't go past 63C with stock fan curve even thought I had maxed out power and thermal limit.
