Dad's computer build

Murissa

Hello everyone

I am building a computer for my Dad and I would like to double check that the parts I am buying are correct and are not underkill/overkill for him. He mainly uses the computer for internet, youtube, videos, trading stock programs and excel.

These are the specifications:

be quiet! Pure Rock CPU Cooler

Corsair Carbide 300R Compact Gaming Case with Window

Corsair Vengeance LPX CMK16GX4M2B3000C15 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4

Intel Core i5 7500

Western Digital WD Black 1TB WD1003FZEX

-  Corsair CX-600 V3 Power Supply

Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1050 OC 2GB

ASRock H270 Performance Motherboard

Is this overkill for what is required/underkill/about right? He needs a computer that is fast.

If you plan to get him a non-K cpu don't but extra cooling for it. Also a 1050 for an I5 isn't really ideal. either a 1060 3/6 gig for it or get an I3.

I would get a less beefy cpu cooler, and for this kind of thing 8gb of ram should be okay. With the exra money get an ssd for the OS. If you need a little more money to get a ssd then you could downgrade the gpu as well and still be okay

I would say to buy an old prebuilt and stick an SSD in it. Much cheaper and a better experience.

Seems like your dad doesnt need a powerfull pc. An i3 without the dedicated GPU would be fine,

to make it snappy you could use a fast m.2 nvme ssd and 16gb of ram.

honestly no GPU and an i3 would be good enought for his use.... this is way way more power than he will ever use. this doesn't use more than 300W either so you don't need to buy more than 430W or 500W if you want (not much price difference between the two). 16GB of ram is also probably overkill and that's a huge added cost right now

Primary System

  • CPU
    Ryzen R6 5700X
  • Motherboard
    MSI B350M mortar arctic
  • RAM
    32GB Corsair RGB 3600MT/s CAS18
  • GPU
    Zotac RTX 3070 OC
  • Case
    kind of a mess
  • Storage
    WD black NVMe SSD 500GB & 1TB samsung Sata ssd & x 1TB WD blue & x 3TB Seagate
  • PSU
    corsair RM750X white
  • Display(s)
    1440p 21:9 100Hz
