For this tier of system a $40 500w unit from a brand with a warranty is as much as I would put into it.

It will be plenty for what you have and support a decent future set of hardware if you upgrade the core build.

There is a list somewhere in this site, but I would look for an 80+ bronze unit from Antec, EVGA, CoolerMaster, or SeaSonic.  There are probably some brands I did not mention, but those generally offer a few years of warranty coverage on their lower end units and you can find them on sale for ~$40.

The EVGA 500w Bronze is decent in this price range I believe.  Im sure someone else will comment on its quality or lack thereof.

85% efficient at normal load.  Less wasted input electricity than older or non-certified PSUs.

Has no impact on output power capability.

It should be enough at ~216w on the 12v side.  Gives you something like a 15-20% margin.

Anything faster than your current GPU will be hit HARD by the limitations of TB3.  Expect to lose ~30% performance compared to the same card in a desktop with a similar CPU.

Overclock your 480 instead, there's no point in wasting money on something you can achieve for free.

I might be misunderstanding you, but why do you think you need an eGPU? The model of laptop that you linked has a GTX 1070, which is still a pretty solid card today. Is there any specific reason you'll need an eGPU?

Yeahhhhh No you need a better power supply that build is just over the wattage it has and we dont need a house fire now. So find a 350-400w unit that will be good for now and for future upgrades

Maybe 4.2ghz unless you are pretty lucky.

Ryzen 2000 series generally hits a hard wall at 4.1-4.2ghz.

I would say that you have to go sub ambient to really get any more clocks with current Ryzen chips.  They just do not scale well with lower temps, even with dry ice you generally wont get more than 5ghz.

If you want a custom loop for the looks then go for it, but if you're doing it because you want more speed out of your CPU then you're going to disappoint yourself.

I don't think you'll get more speed with a custom loop over something like a 360 AIO.  Do you have your CPU running in a system already?  It's not a direct comparison, but I only saw about 100MHz more speed going from the stock cooler to an AIO.  It takes an abundance of cooling to get much further than what the CPU will do on air.

Note that this is under ideal conditions. RAM will almost never sustain that speed in practice.

7000mb memory usage is pretty close to where Windows starts swapping hard with 8gb total system memory.

HD 3000 (HD 2900XTX was faster than HD 3870)
GF 700 series (GTX 750 Ti was actually a baby GTX 900 series card that was ~6 months early)
HD 7000 series (HD 7790 was a newer architecture than everything else)

All had new architecture chips that were not "flagships".

Electricity is out of the question already.  Someone shipped a PC to the other side of a city and had the same issue at both places.

Also, not all audio equipment will have the buzzing sound in your example.  It just depends on how much filtering is applied by the audio equipment's power supply.

Need to disable kernel mode setting through the bootloader.  Its a bug in the AMD and/or generic drivers setting up the wrong frame buffer format AFAIK.

There are plenty of guides on google now that you know what to search for, I dont recall 100% of the steps off the top of my head.

Not only is performance 20% worse, it comes in the form of stuttering and hitching.  So the overall experience is worse even if FPS is higher.

Build a desktop for high res/detail gaming, use your laptop for taking with you so you can do things away from the house.  A 1060 laptop can play pretty much any game with lower settings and is great if you want to blow off some steam on break/lunch at work or between classes at college.

KarathKasun reacted to mariushm in is 400w good for rx 570?
    It depends on power supply.

A RX 570 will consume up to around 175w from the 12v output of your power supply. The other components in your computer (processor, motherboard, mechanical hard drives) will consume let's say up to 100 watts from the 12v output of your power supply. (i don't see what processor you have, how many hard drives you have... 100w is something approximate for a quad core or 6 core processor made in the last few years)

So as long as your power supply can provide around 300w on the 12v output, you should be fine. Look on the label of your power supply and multiply the voltage with Current to get your wattage, if the actual watts are not written.

This is important because while the power supply says it can do 400w, a portion of that power will be reserved for other voltages like 5v and 3.3v, and the video card and processor don't use those voltages to power themselves.

Depends what PSU it is, really. I've run a 3770 and oc'd GTX 480 ES on the seemingly universally-hated green label CX430M just fine.
