Windows 10 (Home) Using 2.7 GB RAM Idle

Hi Comm

So recently, I have discovered that windows 10 uses 34% of my RAM for no reason (2.7 GB for you math nerds). what could i do to reduce the RAM usage?

thx

Well, without us knowing how much ram you actually have installed, it would be impossible to calculate it anyway.

but that seems like normal usage for W10

Work backwards, OP has 8gb of RAM.

I mean, that he wrote ‘34% for the math nerds’ obviously you can calculate it with those 2 figures, I meant you could of just wrote 2.7/8GB.

but with only 2.7GB it could of been anyone’s guess if that makes sense

That is normal and is because it's not being used anyways, so Windows figures it can use it to speed up some processes. It's always funny when you use something that maxes out your memory for a while. When youclose all programs after that, it'll sometimes be using less than 1 GB of RAM afterwards. :P

Meanwhile, my laptop used like 2.4GB with Opera, Discord and Steam opened. Manjaro Deepin.

You can try purge Standbylist with software like Empty Standby List or RAMMap or Intelligent Standbylist Cleaner by Wagnard(DDU creator).

Depends on how much RAM you have.  My compute stick with 2gb of ram uses ~800mb at idle.

Used memory is nothing to worry about unless you start hitting forced paging (90%+ usage), where the PC just stops responding for seconds at a time while data is swapped to the page file.

You missed my second comment after this.

Its simple math, just the way the post was written. Anyway - it isn’t important!
