Leonard got a reaction from Lich0605 in Help with Nvidia Container.
You can disable the container but if you do so and you use GFE then you will have to remember that you did when you install newer games so that you can then re-enable the container to add them to the GFE. To disable:
press the windows key plus the plus sign, or if in win10 right click the start button then hit run type services.msc then hit enter scroll to , LocalSystem Container, Nvidia NetworkService Container and Nvidia Telementry Container and then disable them by right clicking each item and then hitting properties, then for the start up type hit the drop down box and choose disable then ok then restart the PC. -

Leonard reacted to AnonymousGuy in Skype can't fix a nasty security bug without a massive code rewrite
I still use Skype because I'm not going to bother switching to whatever chat client is the flavor of the month. If it's not on iMessage, WhatsApp, or Skype then I don't need it.

Leonard got a reaction from Elfman in can you get a virus by simply downloading the file and not opening it?
Yes, because some of the hackers add the virus to the link itself and when you click on the link to DL the file you can get it.
EDIT: Do a scan to be sure.

Leonard got a reaction from Komplett in What is the SquirrelTemp folder?
@Komplett, i recently received some information on the Squirrel.exe and the temp software and folders from the support staff from the brave browser, i am going to give the small explanation and the link they provided for me to read up on it for you to read up on it as well, they said "Squirrel is both a set of tools and a library, to completely manage both installation and updating your Desktop Windows application, written in either C# or any other language (i.e., Squirrel can manage native C++ applications).
Squirrel uses NuGet packages to create installation and update packages, which means that you probably already know most of what you need to create an installer."
link to the quick snippet from the brave/Squirrel.Windows GitHub Repo.
i hope this puts your queries to rest as it did mine, this is just another thing Microsoft has added to manage the app section of the OS. I am now trying to assess what impact it has on the telemetry aspect of Win10.

Leonard got a reaction from Voxels-Box in How to change fan profiles in software - Asus C6H Hero
AI Suite, both 2 and 3 is really to test the OC quality of your CPU and then you go into the BIOS and make manual changes to get a stable OC. The Fan Xpert works flawlessly once you know how to set it up for manual curves/profiles, even with the default profiles it works. things that throw off Ai Suite are, certain types of BSOD, really bad failed OCs. I have been using AI Suite2 since i got it 6yrs ago and it works fine but i only use the Network control and Fan Expert, i did a manual OC for my system but i use the AI Suite to test what i can achieve.
Hope you get something suitable.

Thank you, Ill give those a try. I havent had a positive experience with AI Suite 3, as it caused some strange system instabilities with the different power settings. But it might be worth another shot. Ill also try Speedfan, which looks harder to use, but more powerful.

Leonard got a reaction from Komplett in What is the SquirrelTemp folder?
Since this post, when i deleted the squirreltemp folder it has not returned until yesterday when the Brave browser had an update and the squirrelteam and squirrel.exe was reinstalled. I deleted that too and it has not returned and i have contacted the support team on Brave to see what information they have on the issue. I will also report on that too when/if they get back to me.

Leonard got a reaction from Seefer in Stupid question!
It is always good to do a PC restart to kill unused running processes, especially in Windows and you should turn off the PC whenever you are not using it and if you find this to be stupid then leave your house lights on in the day too.

Leonard got a reaction from scottyseng in Server UPS Recommendations
Look for Cyberpower Pure sinewave UPS in the $250-$350 range, not the simulated sinewave ones and you should be fine.

Wireshark should work for you but if you have a router that has 3rd party firmware that will do it too if not better and easier.

Leonard got a reaction from Komplett in What is the SquirrelTemp folder?
Alright, well since my deletion of the files i have not seen them reappear after two restarts but i will keep an eye out for when it does, if at all.

Leonard got a reaction from TotallyUseless in UPS for non PC Devices
Almost any UPS is enough and would work for a TV. I ti s best to get a USP for all your electronics once you have bad power due to just supply or weather. I personally have one on my entertainment center, my PC and on my refrigerator. I would advise you get sine wave and not simulated sine wave because the simulated kind introduces electronic noise until the batteries are fully charged and settled. APC is good by so too is Cyberpower.
Now if you are an american or has a similar type of junction box, i say american because not all junction boxes around the world allow for this due to building codes, and you are working and doing home renovations i would recommend you get a line conditioner for your junction box as added protection for the whole house.

Leonard got a reaction from sikari2015 in Collation of Windows 10 Jan 2018 (KB4056892) Issues
Nice post @sikari2015, i am not sure if this is only my issue as i cannot find any relating to it but is is early but for me apart from the AI Suite2 not loading i have also had an issue where one of my backup storage disks that has been formatted with GPT is showing to have failed S.M.A.R.T. when it was perfectly fine just before the update. The disk still loads and opens but copying is now slower than before. I plan to do a reformat and see if that helps.
I am on the 1709 build and i just uninstalled the KB4056892 update and all is back to normal again, AI Suite 2 loads and the disk passed S.M.A.R.T. i will still do the reformatting when i get my new disk, ordering that now.
EDIT:
Two more updates rolled out for me today, KB4054517 and KB4058043 the last one is linked to a MS Store reliability. So far no issues have happend, AI Suite2 loads and S.M.A.R.T says my disk is fine. I still have no idea what the issue is with KB4056892.

Leonard reacted to sikari2015 in Collation of Windows 10 Jan 2018 (KB4056892) Issues
The following is a collation of issues I've found from other forum posts, articles and personal experience that are resulting from installing the latest Windows 10 update. The update is the January 2018 (KB4056892) fix for Spectre/Meltdown.
Feel free to add any posts with additional issues you've had and been able to link to the Windows Update.
Collation of issues found with Windows 10 Update – January 2018 (KB4056892)
· Update reported as failed to install, possible error code 0x80070643. If this occurs check for updates and it should correct the issue.
· Update causes blue screens after restarting, can’t boot back into windows.
Error codes include Watchdog_Timeout_Error, Inaccessible_Boot_Device,
If this occurs, hopefully the Automatic Repair tool will start and fix the startup issue. Sometimes this will successfully uninstall Update KB4056892, allowing you to boot back into Windows. Once back into Windows, immediately Disable the “Windows Update” service (Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services).
If you can’t get back into Windows because the automatic repair fails, you will need Windows Recovery/Install media to boot from. Then you can try returning to a previous Restore Point (if it lets you), or from a Windows Backup (if you made one). Otherwise you may have no choice but to reinstall Windows.
There is some factor in your PC that is causing the update to fail/kill Windows installations. I’ve yet to find out what, but in the mean time disabling the update is the only solution until Microsoft issues a fix.
· Asus AI Suite not loading. There currently aren’t any updates of the AI Suite and Q-Fan software which is known to work with the KB4056892 update. So, if you need to run AI Suite, or Q-Fan then unfortunately you must uninstall KB4056892. There is the following report, however, that might work for AI Suite
So, to fix ASUS AI Suite 3 issues on Windows 10, first download the latest AI Suite 3, right click the zip file and select “Properties”.
Select the “Unblock” check box and hit OK. Unzip the zip file and run AsusSetup.exe as Administrator. Keep in mind that your need to unblock the ZIP first before you extract the files. Reboot your computer and the AI Suite 3 should work smoothly now.
· Other programs including browsers crashing or not loading. The first advice right now for these issues is to make sure to download and do a fresh install of the latest versions of these programs. It has known to help Firefox and Chrome to do this. There is also the option to uninstall the update, and this should make the other programs work again.
Sadly, most of the fixes around this update is to uninstall it and prevent it from reinstalling. So much for patching the potentially biggest security flaw in the last 10 years.

Leonard got a reaction from bcguru9384 in which router is better?
@xdeathshot20
The EA6900 because you can install 3rd party software and have even more tweaking capability than the default firmware, i don't think the mesh one can have that done to it.

Leonard got a reaction from LogicalDrm in Windows 10 Glitchy, Slow loading login screen. Fix?
@Frankieanime158, this could be a number of things like as mentioned a bad update or corrupt page file, have you tried a Disk Cleanup from Windows or another system tuneup utility?...disk clean up comes with Windows, just right click your boot disk and select properties then you will see a window that pops up, there you look for the Disk Cleanup button and then another window will open, there you hit the clean up system files but make sure you check the boxes you deem necessary to clean like Windows update files and say temporary files or whatever you want cleaned, then reboot then shutdown then boot and check for any differences in boot time.
